A phone call of healing.

50 Year Old Phone Call
By Jim Stewart

A few years ago I received a phone call from my Dad, he was crying. I asked him what was wrong. He told me that he had something that had been heavy on his heart for 50 years. I asked him if I could help him. He said, "Well Yes.Do you remember when you were 3 years old ? I told you you something back then that I didn't mean. I told you that I did not love you. That was not true . I do love you and have loved you your whole life." I interupted him. I told him that I knew he loved me. To me he did not have to tell me this, but I also knew that he needed to heal and I needed to let him know that I forgave him 50 years ago. I knew that it was hard for him to call. I also knew that I had to to tell him that I forgive him.

My Dad and I throughout the years always have had a mutual respect for each other. We always listened to each other when one of us needed advice. With this phone call, our lives have come full circle. We seem to be a little closer. My Dad just turned 87 years old and I seem to listen a lot more to him these days.

Very touching story Jim. We just never know what's inside another person, even family. I have made it a point all through my life to say "I love you" to my siblings, parents, and my own children every single time I say bye whether on the phone or in person. It's a natural thing for us all to do now. Good write.

Hugs,
Anna

The guilt one holds can be so burdensome to bear--though the catalyst seems so miniscule to one, it's an albatross to another, needing to be unburdened. Worthy write.
