10 Ways to Improve Your Marriage

Anyone that is married that does not need some ideas on how to improve their marriage would seem to be living in some sort of denial.

If we do want some of those ideas, one needs to admit that they are all selfish human beings who really just want to have their way.  It’s really not hard if we are honest with our feelings to admit that we have a despicable disease called selfishness.

The first step for this couple is  to admit one's own personal selfish side.  Think as long as you get your way that happiness follows?  Think again.

There is nothing in the world wrong with spoiling ourselves sometimes by getting what we want.  Most of us really know that if we only satisfy ourselves and not consider others, we will become a dull, spoiled, self centered piece of humanity.  It seems to be much easier when we are dating or first married to be less selfish and more loving and caring towards each other. It is actually remarkable how we true to please each other in these early stages.  However, after the relationship settles down from the sparks that flies and the chemistry that absolutely has one running around in some euphoric drug looking state, we become our old selves and the selfishness takes over.

So what are some ways that can help?

First everyday that you wake up say to yourself is there something today that I can do that will surprise my mate. Perhaps it is getting her a bouquet of roses or surprising him with a special meal or maybe it is impromptly showing up to take one out to lunch.

Run a tub of water for her with the special fragrances she likes and escort her to the tub when she arrives home.  Part of this could be taking a bath with her.  This of course may lead to a most romantic evening.

Ask her to go for a special walk with you along some mood light path. This can conjure up some very sentimental feelings and more importantly a chance to show some real closeness.

On the spur of the moment ask him or her to go with you to that special movie the two of you have been talking about.

When she comes in from work, greet her with a long, lingering kiss and tell her how much you have missed her and ask if the two of you can just lie on the couch in each other’s arms for a while as you take a break from life and it’s problems.

Make a collage of pictures for special times in your relationship and ask one another to discuss these memories together.

Pick her up some special lingerie that you and her mutually like and ask her to wear if for you then or later in the evening.

Phone her at work and tell her you’ve arranged a long weekend for the two of you to go to that special place on the beach, mountains or some other special hideaway.

Tell her you’ve arranged for a babysitter or the parents to keep the children overnight while you have some quality time alone with each other.

Give affirmations.  Tell each other what you really like about each other and let these come directly from the heart as you gaze into each other’s eyes.

As you can see these suggestions should see an immediate positive reaction from your beloved. The above suggestions may sound like work but once you really decide to try to improve your relationship, they will not be seen that way.  Implement these suggestions and you will not be sorry.

You are absolutely right.

An adult relationship works because both are actually working at it. Unfortunately, many adults have wrong ideas and beliefs about love: they think that it should be like magic: women constantly pretty and smiling always admiring men who think they're totally deserving to be admired even when they've been sitting in a coach ignoring their partner for hours.

I know that a lasting relationship requires a lot of work and that the secret is transforming this work into pleasure.

Thank you for your article!

You are one in a million Aubrey. I hope lots of people read and respond postively to your suggestions. For me, these suggestions were played upon my part, only. All was a one-sided struggle that later lead to divorce and bitterness. The bitterness was from my ex as he didn't have anyone who fed his unselfishness any longer.
These suffestions will work if it is mutual.
Peace, harmony and pink cherry blossoms for you and yours here in Macon.
