Today as perhaps never before, higher education in North America needs greater unity of purpose. The educational system must provide citizens with the means for ongoing survival. Such an education should be geared to the pursuit of excellence while at the same time preserving individual freedom. The democratic way of life offers the best promise yet for a brighter future on planet Earth.
