If you are on ebay let me suggest why you should leave. If you are not on ebay let me suggest why you should not be.

Today was the final straw. After several years trading on ebay and putting up with their increasing charges and dictatorial "policies" we have finally decided that enough is enough.

We are joining the mass exodus of frustated and annoyed ebayers... buyers and sellers alike, who are leaving to find alternative sites.

Did you know that product for product it now costs more than twice as much to run an ebay business as it does to run a retail store and advertise it on your local tv station?

Now ebay suspend you account and force you to read a "tutorial' should you break one of their arbitary "policies". Not only do they suspend your listings, but any winning bid is also disqualified.

Let me give you the latest example of this Ebay dictatorial policy. Today we listed had a bit on one of our battery chargers which was won by a United States buyer. Within minutes our account (with over 99.9% positive feedback from over 1300 people) was "suspended" and we were stopped from listing product.

Notwithstanding the fact that this is interference in our business and a denial of our rights, our account was suspended for infringing their Postal Policy. Here is the email we sent to   ebay, which has a massive impact on our business due to the fact that we can only do our listings on the weekend. The product by the way is a solar battery charger with a solar panel and a large number of accessories which was due to go to the United States and the postage quoted for that product (via the Australia Post website) was $17.50 AUD

Thank you for your email advising that you had ended these listings early. I must admit I am at a loss to understand how you can possibly determine whether or not this is excessive postage without any knowledge of the item in question.

Let me give you a few facts ( which I will also be sending to ACCC as I believe your policies and unilateral decisions are damaging our ability to trade effectively)

1. The item measures 29 x 18.5 x 5cm
2. It weighs 459gms - which puts it in the category where the Australia Post charges alone are $13.50. On top of that you can add another $1.90 for a padded bag which takes the item comfortably enough to allow another layer of bubble wrap to endure the item arrives safely- say another $1.00 - and this does not cover the cost of the actual wrapping and packing - perhaps you can tell me how to negotiate a lower salary rate for my staff??

Unfortunately you leave me with no option but to include on our future advertisements that we are unable to sell this item internationally due to ebay's "new excessive postage policy" as I am not prepared to lose money by trading on ebay!

Yours sincerely
thinktank49

The email we got back thanking us for our email to them suggested that it would take "several days" for them to get back to us.

So we have made a decision... and if  any of you have ever purchased from us on ebay we really do regret this state of affairs because while ebay costs to over the past few years have gone up several hundred percentage points, ours have remained more than comptetitive with other traders. In fact our reptuation is remarkable.

Until we finish up on ebay we will be stating that certain items  cannot be sold overseas due to ebays 'excessive postage' policy with is not only abitrary, it is possible that it borders on the illegal. However, a little known fact in Australia is that the US has laws that do not allow non US based companies to sue US companies. (The opposite does not exist. Well done guys."

We can recommend other auction websites to visit which do not (yet?) adhere to the same policies as ebay, which has become more dictatorial and more greedy for power and money than all the people it "owns" on it's website.

Try these

www.oztion.com.au Great little auction site for Australia and the more people list there the better chance we have of letting ebay know that they are no longer wanted by so many ex ebayers. Maybe you would like to go to http://www.powerhomebiz.com/News/012006/eroo.htm

and look at the articles relating to EROO another Australian auction site.

Yes ebay are big. That's why the pay their shareholders huge payouts and then jack up the fees to the sellers. They are big and people think that big sells more. Not true .

Roll on the days when an alternative well funded and well run US/UK auction site comes on line.

Sorry to all our wonderful buyers over the past few years. You can also visit us as www.wholesale4u.com.au for your wholesale prices. Or you can see some of our exquistite products at www.aliciawongdesigns.com, and quite soon we will have our own new jewellery wholesale site up so ebay can just go hang. On priciple we don't need them, or their charges, or their dicatorial policies.

Ebay is sleezy. They do not honor contracts, they do not care about fraud, they do NOT care if you get screwed. They do not answer emails. File a complaint with the Attorney general's office in your state, and in California where they are based. Those complaints are followed up on, though it takes time. I waited two years and it was worth it. By not filing a complaint, you allow them to get away with their fraudulent activity. I can commiserate. Been there and done that. Try GoAntiques.com The monthly rate is low and they have a venue for old and new. I've been with them for over a year, and I'm very pleased. They advertise in several mags and newspapers, as well as have Antiquenet.com where your things are also listed, as well as a link with Yahoo and many others.
