When God chooses you -- you will know it. O' what joy and warmth you will know as you choose to accept His love.
In Christ we are chosen. In Him we are rescued, adopted and honored. These are wonderful truths that can encourage us to realize the richness of our position. This knowledge can also challenge us to live our lives with proper attitudes and conduct because "privilege always brings with it responsibility."
As God looks upon us as chosen, He remembers that in eternity past, (even before time as we know it began) He chose us to salvation. It is a fact that every child of God is a chosen individual, but they are not chosen on their own merits -- they were chosen in Christ.
Here we have the wonderful and yet mysterious truth of election. The Bible teaches that salvation begins with God, not with us (read Romans 8:33, 1 Thessalonians 1:4; and 1 Peter 1:2). It began with Him in eternity past when He chose us, as stated in Ephesians 1:4. Jesus said in John 15:16, "You did not choose me, but I chose you."
Oh, you say, "election isn't fair to those not chosen." Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion." So then, it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy."
