As a child, I used to dream of space and what was out there, especially Planet Mars.
Many times I would sit in front of the TV or listen to the radio entralled by the fantasy of it all.
I believe that being an author in a way gives us licence to how we portray our stories. Just letting our imaginations and creativity run wild can be great fun for both writer and reader alike. This is how I felt when the idea came for this book. I got the characters and the plots and then just let it all out on paper. The result, for me, was amazing. It was just like I was there, the main character.
I suppose in a way, many children's authors, re-live their childhoods through their books. This was certainly the case for me. I just began to write and the words kept coming. When I had finished the work, I just knew that there was more to come.
Following sending the manuscript off to the publishers for assessment, I began the sequel - The Wishing Book 2 - Return to Mars. Within a few weeks, I was well into the story and was greatly encouraged when the news came back from the publisher - they had accepted The Wishing Book.
This fueled my desire to write and once again my publisher liked the sequel. This is out on 30 November 2009.
I have written The Wishing Book 3 - Extermination but at this time, I am waiting on the success of the other two before I send this one off.
At this time, I cannot see any end to the series, such is my desire to continue. I know it will have to end at some time. However at this time, I am just enjoying the whole adventure of it.
If you have read The Wishing Book, I would love to hear from you. Also if you feel that you would like to contact me, please feel free.
