What is Fear and how are you experiencing it?

"Fear is the mindkiller."  Have you heard that expression before?  Has it become your mantra?  The harbingers of doom and gloom believe that it has, and in their desire to control you continue to heap it on, an endless barrage of incoming fear.

What is Fear?  I believe it to be a call to a new challenge, a call to step into new experience and learning.  Fear must be controlled and directed.  You've also heard the expression, " a deer in the headlights".  You can see the image in your mind, the mindless animal frozen in its tracks, awaiting its doom.  Have you become the deer?

Climate Change, Economic Meltdown, Political Instability....are these new experiences in the history of this world?  Are they challenges never before encountered?

Scientists who study behavior tell us Fear produces a choice in the human being.  Fight or Flight.  Meet the challenge or run from it.  All explorers in all of human time have been confronted by fear;  Columbus, Galileo, Einstein, Armstrong among many, many others.  You are no different from any of them.  Life is always proceeding into the unknown, and if not unknown to the world, at the very least unknown to you in particular and to your experience.

How did our forebears proceed through the Great Depression, the "dustbowl" of Oklahoma, the scourge of world war?  I'm sure they felt fear but they did not allow the fear to overwhelm them.  Delve into your mind and find your fear; meld with it, understand it and proceed from it.  It is there to guide you forward, and not to tie you to the past.

I find it interesting that the inclusion of the word "fear" in the title of my previous article produced many new readers.  Fear is certainly an open sore on the face of society, witnessed and felt by many.  Our collective fear calls to us, but do we allow this fear mastery over us?  In the fight or flight scenario, have we decided to run from it or make it a tool in the further experience before us?

Each of us must tighten our focus and return to our own immediate environment.  We have enabled the fear of outside forces to control us on the inside.  A personal redirection is in order.  Say no to the pundits of fear.  Face your own fear and make it a productive element in your life.
