We Are Made to Worship Something!
Google gets it right with the first definition that pops up for worship. Their definition for worship is as follows:
"idolize: love unquestioningly and uncritically or to excess; venerate as an idol; "Many teenagers idolized the Beatles"
Wikipedia also gives an excellent definition of
"Worship is etymologically derived from Old English words meaning "worth-ship". Giving worth to something."
Worship is too often seen as an act that is done only by those that profess some sort of religious affiliation. The driving fact is that everyone worships something, and in general, what a person worships is what defines that person. Or maybe it could (and should) be phrased this way: what a person idolizes is what defines that person. Bob Kauflin in his book "Worship Matters" sums it up superbly: "Worship is about what we love. What we live for. It's about who we are before God."1
