Okay so you write a book, the why doesn't really matter. You tell your relatives, "Hey I wrote a book," and they just kind of look at you, "okay," and leave it there. Then you send it to a publisher and the publisher says, "We want to publish your book," and you think "Wow, I must be Mark Twain." But unfortunately you're not, nobody ever heard of you. Just getting a book published and not having to pay anything for it is an accomplishment. You tell all your friends, workers, and relatives and they are impressed to a certain degree. The first week it was out people ask you how many did you sell, why can't I find it in Barnes and Nobel. You contact your publisher and ask them the same questions and then you realize it's a very small publishing company with little assets to market your book. So you come to the realization that you have to market your own book to become a world famous author or hopefully just to sell enough books to make you feel good.
That is where I am now. Daily I google, yahoo, and Alta Vista my book, we his 6,380 hits on Alta Vista today, and I wonder if anyone else is looking at the Internet and my book. My publisher only pays in August and March.
