Learn how to find more storage space in your home.

It doesn’t matter how small or large your home is, storage can be a problem in any home.  After you have purged everything you no longer want or need, place all items in the correct rooms and put as many items away as possible.  If you still have items lying out and not enough storage space to put them away, try these space saving ideas to help you find the storage space you need.

·         Hang it up:  Use hooks, hangers, hanging organizers, corkboards, pegboards, hanging baskets and back of the door hangers/organizers to hang as much as possible. You can also hang items such as coffee cups, wine glasses, bananas and more underneath your cabinets.

·         Inside cabinets and shelving:  Use adjustable shelving wherever possible; in any room where shelving is needed, underneath stairs, in between studs in walls that lack drywall, etc.  Consider stacking items vertically, hang items underneath shelves or add a small shelf on top of your existing shelves to raise items to a higher level.

·         Back of the door:  Hang shoe organizers, coat hangers, bath towels and shelving on the back of any door.  Hang hand towels, bags holders and post information on the inside of any cabinet door.   Hint:  When posting more than one page of information, place one on top of the other for easy viewing.

·         On the ceiling:  Hang items in between open rafters.  In the garage; use an extra deep hanging shelving unit for extra storage space.

·         Underneath:   Utilize the space underneath furniture such as a bed, couch, and more.  Under the stairs is also a great place for an extra set of shelves.

·         Inside furniture:  Purchase furniture that has hidden storage compartments.

·         Stack items vertically or horizontally:  Consider placing items a different way.  Examples:  Stack boxed items on their sides, one on top of the other in a vertical position:  cereals, pastas, tissue boxes, etc.  Paper plates can also be stacked on their sides in an upright position.  Consider placing paper towels one on top of the other horizontally.

·         Square instead of round:  Square storage containers fit together much better than round ones do and waste less space. Use as many square storage containers as possible for food and other items.

·         Picture it:  Instead of saving large items of sentimental value take a picture of the item instead.  If it belongs to someone else or was made by someone else, take a picture of that person with the item.

·         Space saving bags:  Consider using Space Saver Bags to condense your bulkier fabric items into airtight bags.
