My fellow Americans,
I am here to propose an idea that is sure to stir controversy but it’s something that I firmly believe in. What if we were to replace the “Star Spangled Banner” as our National Anthem with a song that embraces Peace instead of War … One that acknowledges Our Creator?
For your consideration, here are the words to our current National Anthem, followed by a couple of alternatives I would like to offer:
The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics
By Francis Scott Key 1814
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
America the Beautiful
Words by Katharine Lee Bates,
Melody by Samuel Ward
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
God Bless America
Words and music by Irving Berlin
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
God bless America, My home sweet home.
What do you think? Wouldn’t You feel better about placing your hand over your heart if the words of our National Anthem actually reflected the Will of Our Creator? I know that I would!
