My story "A Fine Sacrifice" was fortunate enough to win BAD MOON BOOK's 1999 Blood & Guts Horror Story Competition. The chapbook is still commercially available from the publisher.

Ottawa publisher Bad Moon Books has an annual contest for horror stories and publishes the winner. In this case, a chillingly understated story of a baseball-obsessed man's type of creep, his misogynistic outlook and the soul-warping effects he's had on the unfortunate people in his orbit. That probably sounds more like a mainstream story, but rest assured there's an unease in this little gem that builds to genuine horror, rendered all the more imprssive by its psychological insights.
Author Steve Vernon is a familiar name in small press (and not-so-small press) horror circles and this is a fine effort on his part.
