This is the time of year when I start to savor all of the episodes of my favorite shows, knowing that the season is quickly coming to an end. That is right, it is almost season finale time folks. It should be a very interesting finale season as many of the shows are on the verge of not returning. Nothing has been said officially, this is pure speculation, although I will be making bets.
This is what is called the home stretch, the last stand, the last dance before the lights go up. Every show on television’s fate hinges on the next six weeks. No matter how cemented you think your show is, there is always a chance. Granted some are much slimmer than others. Keep an eye out for the following shows as I think they are on the fence.
Bones (Fox) - Has lost it’s gumption and the sexual tension is dying a slow painful death.
Fringe (Fox) – has a loyal following but unless they have a hell of a finale it is going to get axed.
Chicago Code (Fox) – Chicago what?
Smallville (CW) – How is this show still on?
The Event (NBC) – Had so much promise and honestly it took too long of a break, and lost the momentum. By the time they came back we all forgot the point, not good.
Blue Bloods (CBS) – Drama, heart, cast, horrible time slot, and marketing, no one knows the show although many should.
CSI: NY (CBS) – Losing the cast and the viewers. Magnificent Gary Sinise can’t even save this sinking ship.
It kills me, it really does, to put many of these on the list, but lets face it, they either never picked up steam or the thrill is diminishing.
My perspective of summer television has changed over the past few years. Before it was the time when you caught up on everything you missed during the regular season.
However with the evolution of the Winter Premier came the Summer Premier as captured by the off-network station. Which is actually brilliant, so thus the summer seasons has boomed. This new season has launched a number of excellent shows that have had serious staying power, including Burn Notice, Monk, Eureka, Royal Pains, The Closer, and Damages. The mainstream networks haven’t quite caught on yet, filling the summer schedule with reality shows, competition shows, and games shows…ugh.
I have to give credit this year as there are a few shows premiering that are getting quite a buzz, and I am looking forward to watching. One of them being ABC’s “Body of Proof” starring Dana Delany, and while this is another medical examiners show, I will give it the three episode test because of Dana.
The other show that I am looking forward to trying out will be CBS’s “Chaos” – Rouge CIA Agents battle the bureaucracy. No stars worth mentioning but looks intriguing nonetheless.
I am on the fence about this lat one, “Falling Skies”, with Noah Wyle on TNT. This, to me, looks like a cross between the Librarian movie series also by TNT and Congo. It doesn’t give me too much hope, however we will give it the three episode test and see what happens.
While I am sad my shows are going on hiatus, I am excited to see the cliffhangers and how many of my predictions will have come to fruition!
