Living in this wonderful nation with all of its freedoms, different cultures, religions, opinions can be an educational yet confusing dilemma.
Conversing with people of different and like minds can be a very rewarding experience. Over the last few months I have had a variety of discussions ranging from politics to general chit chat. The one common denominator in these discussions has been that some of the questions and concerns that are of importance to me are of importance and impact everyone I've spoken with. Regardless of age, religion, how a person was raised or what race they were, we faced the same questions, concerns and lack of answers.
Of paramount importance was the upcoming presidential elections. Who do we vote for and why? What difference will it make who we vote into office considering these are all wealthy individuals who have no real touchstone with the "real" average American. When each and every person casts their vote does their vote really count? Or are we all part of an elaborate play that has been pre-scripted and the ending has already been determined... Regardless of the questions one thing is for sure, every single person in this country needs to set time aside and vigilantly research each candidate and their families. Voting without being informed is just as irresponsible and dangerous as not voting at all.
Morality. Another heated and highly debated topic. How can we raise our children in a world filled with immoraltiy? Common sense dictates that if adults modify their own behavior becoming good role models that are willing to instill correct values along with family time, showing love, and taking responsibility for the children that they bring into this world, our children will blossom and be more receptive to the good versus bad influences in life. How can we as parents expect wrestling, modeling, soap operas, idolizing over-paid athletes, cellphones, console games, computers and various toys to take the place of good old fashioned parenting. It's time to take back control of our minds, hearts and souls and start parenting our children, don't allow your childen to control you through peer pressure, the "jone's", unrealistic materialistic obssesion or damaging outside influences.
We have to arm ourselves with knowledge so that we can make solid informed decisions concerning the fate of our country and our children. I see the stress, fear and concern on so many faces. Somewhere along the way people have forgotten how to think for themselves instead choosing to partake of the forbidden fruits made readily available. Drowning in the seas of substance abuse, pre-occupied with sex, distressed because their bodies are not society perfect, stalking wealth and material assets...and they are still miserable and unhappy. Are we now going to jump off of cliffs because everyone else is jumping? Shall we pretend that we don't see the pink elephant under the table? WE THE PEOPLE, HAVE THE ABILITY AND THE RIGHT TO MAKE OUR OWN CHOICES! If we make the right choice and we do the right things alot of our problems will be alleviated.
