Celebrating Earth Day 2006
Earth Day 2006
Saturday April 22nd is Earth Day!! This year Earth Day will launch a sustained, three-year campaign to educate consumers, corporations and governments worldwide on the urgent need to take concrete steps on climate change – NOW – before it’s too late. The goal for Earth Day 2006 is 10,000 Climate Change Events Worldwide. For more information please visit www.Earthday.net
Locally there will be festivities at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Jacksonville as well as events at MOSH on Saturday. Personally, my all-time favorite place to spend Earth Day is at Washington Oaks Gardens, just south of St. Augustine.
Their Earth Day event offers visitors a chance to learn more about history, handmade arts and crafts and our environment. There will be live entertainment by local artists as well as some of Florida’s finest folk musicians and storytellers. Kids will have special programs including a painting wall, an adventure discovery walk, and a youth potting program. Environmental clubs will be presenting information, and the Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens will be selling plants, park related merchandise, and baked goods. The plant sales will focus on plants propagated in the park, as well as popular herbs. There will be a raffle for a variety of items, such as an Annual Park Permit for all Florida State Parks, two kayak tour gift certificates offered by Coastal Outdoor Center, Garden Gift Baskets and much more. A variety of food and drinks will be available for purchase.

No matter where you go or what you do…be kind to Mother Earth…not just on Earth Day, but Every Day!!
