On Christmas morning, I wish...
For a world in which we finally start respecting all of our many diverse
neighbors on this planet, both human and nonhuman…As the Creator intended us to do.
For a nation in which we once again take pride in protecting and revering
The many endangered species populating our shores…Before they are gone forever.
For lawmakers and legislators who understand that animals are sentient beings, too, and feel pain and suffering, just as we do…And who finally pass much needed laws to protect them from mankind’s cruelty.
For every starving abandoned animal desperately searching trash bins for breakfast... A filled food dish with his or her name printed in bright bold letters.
For every dog that slept fitfully last night, cruelly chained in a frozen backyard... A
soft, warm bed with a loving person snoring gently nearby.
For every shelter cat, spending Christmas morning alone in a tiny soiled cage... A
forever home, filled with sounds and smells of family.
For every cuddly Christmas puppy or kitten given today... A tolerant, caring owner who
won't abandon you as you grow into an adult, and who won’t leave you behind when they move.
For every ailing pet... Enough money for your owner to pay the vet bills to make
For every lost animal... A clear, safe road, and a well-marked path, to lead you
For every old and tired friend, both human and nonhuman... A warm fire, and a soft bed, to ease your many aches and pains.
And for every pet that has passed on and patiently waits for their human friend at the Rainbow Bridge...
A moment when you know that you are remembered today, missed again, and loved forever.
