The month of May was designated ‘Animal Guardian Month,’ by a dedicated international animal welfare organization – In Defense of Animals (IDA) – established twenty-five years ago by Dr. Elliot Katz.
IDA’s Mission Statement – ‘To end animal exploitation, cruelty, and abuse by protecting and advocating for the rights, welfare, and habitats of animals, as well as to raise their status beyond mere property, commodities, or things.’
I was honored to be a small part of their Animal Guardian Mission this year. One of my animal poems – Sweet Little Girl – was recently featured in a Chicago newspaper, which participated in Animal Guardian Month 2010 – to raise awareness of the horrible plight of pets in our society, today.

Our many animal friends today, truly need many more dedicated Animal Guardians, if we hope to make their lives better.
