The National Multicultural Writers Association is having its second annual event celebrating African American History on February 17, 2013
The event is a book signing featuring published authors of the organization. It will be held at the Oklahoma African American Art Museum, 4701 Lincoln, OKC. President Thomasena Martin-Johnson said, " Authors Dennis Maley, Kirsten Lee and Gay W. Mcghee will be introduced to a whole new audience.
NMWA is an association of writers whose mission is to introduce and promote new writers to the Oklahoma City area. Formally know as OBBWA, founded by the late Kenneth Bowens, this association is continuing the legacy started by this visionary.
"I feel that it is very important for young African Americans to know that among their midst, there are people who write books just like the ones they read in school and that they, themselves can do the same. Nothing is out of reach for them", says Martin-Johnson.
She said, "Public education has dropped the ball and so has some parents. SOMEBODY needs to pick it up. Somebody needs to step up to the plate. We have already lost three generations; we need to stop the bleeding."
