Jackson Hole author Lynn Estes Friess has won a second Moms Choice Award!
Jackson Hole author Lynn Estes Friess has won a 2012 Mom's Choice Award for her picture book “Carl Discovers Wildlife Art“ (Mariposa Ranch Press, 2010).
Written by Friess and illustrated by noted landscape and wildlife artist John Potter, the book received the award in the category “Children's Picture Books“ in the annual awards, which recognize authors, inventors, companies, parents and other people for their efforts in creating quality family-friendly media, products and services.
Friess is a grandmother of 10, an avid art collector and supporter of the National Museum of Wildlife Art; she said she wrote the book to introduce children to wildlife art and the museum. Her winning book, originally published in 2010, is the first in a four-part series. The second book, “Carl and the Mysterious Nibbler,“ was released in 2011. Proceeds from the Carl books help sponsor programs, exhibits and operating support for the museum.
“I love these books,“ museum Curator of Education Jane Lavino said. “They offer a fabulous introduction to our art, and they also advocate for literacy. Carl is a voracious reader with piles of books in his home that he uses to figure things out. What a great role model!“ In 2011, Friess won a Mom's Choice Award for her first picture book, “Western Lullaby,“ which also won a 2011 Gold Independent Publisher Book Award.
