A wife has a brilliant idea to purchase bikes for her husband and her. Sometimes even the best laid plans do not make for a happy couple.

"I have the best idea ever!" She says smiling from ear to ear.

Here it comes, he thinks.

He has heard her ideas before. It either involves a project claiming to take only a couple hours or may have him doing something weird to his body like yoga or eating tofu.

"Really, I cannot wait to hear your idea," he says reluctantly, continuing to smile but inside he has already decided this cannot be good.

"I think we should buy a couple bikes." She exclaims proudly.

"Bikes…you mean the kind with two wheels that you pedal?" He asks, as his smile starts to fade quickly.

"Of course…you silly man what other kind is there? It will be fun!" She says enthusiastically.

He knows he cannot fight her on this one, as she is too excited and that means only one thing. She has already played out the scenario in her mind and has been on a reconnaissance mission, scoping out the bikes she wants to buy. She has picked out the bikes, the helmets, and matching shirts. She needs him to help carry out her sinister plan and that is to load the bikes in the truck.

"I guess," he says wearily, knowing this will mean him riding a bike every night after supper instead of snoozing in his easy chair.

"Next week would be good for me," he explains, hoping to put off her idea a bit longer.

"Next week…honey I thought we could go right now. I have found the perfect bikes! If we do not go now, someone may buy them from under our nose." She says smartly.

He begins to toy with this idea in his mind, remembering his ten-speed he used to have in his younger years. He had some great times on that bike. It was sharp too, red with a bold black stripe. The girls thought he was hot riding around the neighborhood. Maybe this bike thing would not be so bad after all. If he really liked it, he may take some morning bike rides on his own.

She looks over, watching him peddle next to her. She is so happy with their decision to buy these bikes.

"Honey, are you having fun?" She asks happily.

He wipes the sweat from his brow as he peddles up the hill. His dreams quickly dismantled in his mind. Not only is it not a ten-speed, but it is an old-fashioned looking bike that one would see an old man riding. It has no gears as his wife said it would be good exercise for him. Feeling hot has taken on a whole new meaning. The helmet matches the color on his bike.

He offers a half grin but deep down, he has made up his mind. I will never wear that matching shirt.
