This article tells about an adoption placement that goes wrong and the child that is lost forever by it and one "true and natural" mother's justice for her "birth" son.

"Adoption was created to provide homes for orphans. These by definition are children without parents. Car crashes, war, natural disasters. It was never created to provide children to 'poor infertile couples'. When did the wires get crossed? I guess when someone started making money. Children are not a commodity!!!! Get a puppy." - An adoptee "Follow the money" - Deep Throat

The Year is 1965, a young Caucasian teen age girl, name Jerry Sherwood becomes pregnant and is placed into a secure care facility i.e. juvenile detention center by her uncaring parents .

While in the juvenile detention center she comes to find out she is pregnant and she tells the baby's father she is pregnant and that she wants to keep the baby.

Little does she know that her own parents who relinquish their parental rights to her care, custody, and control over to the State of Minnesota has also signed over the parental rights of their legally orphaned daughter,Jerry.

She does not even realize that the baby's father was also willing terminated his own parental rights to the child.

Jerry gives birth to a baby boy in 1965 and she is allowed to be there when the baby she names and baptizes
Dennis, is quickly and swiftly taken way from her.

Years ago by, Jerry get married to Dennis' "true and natural" father and they have three other children, another son, she names Dennis and two daughters.

Jerry waits very patiently but never forgets her first born son, Dennis and on his eighteenth birthday she calls the state adoption agency which is responsible for placing Dennis in his adoptive home.

She calls the adoption agency and they tell her that they will write to Dennis and ask if he wants to have contact with his "true and natural" mother , Jerry Sherwood.

A few days later, she receives a letter from the adoption agency and the letter she receives tells her that her "birth" son , Dennis, died at the age of 3 years old on Palms Sunday in 1965.

She asks for the telephone number of Dennis' adoptive parents and she calls up and asks what happened to Dennis.

The adoptive mother, Lois Jurgens, states he died of ruptured bowel and that he was a very good little boy but not very healthy.

Jerry asks what cemetery Dennis is buried in and when she goes her other children and she go to try to find Dennis' grave.

At the cemetery at the very point in time, a gentleman is there and he asks if he can helped them find someone's grave.

Jerry says "She is looking for the grave of Dennis Craig Jurgens and she is the "true and natural" mother and she had just learned about her son's death.

The man says, that he is adoptive mother's brother and he came to visit his niece's grave who died and he also says that Lois, his sister was a very good mother to her children.

This is not the case though. As the story continues there are many discrepancies in the death certificate and also Jerry is persistent as she digs up old newspaper articles of her son's death . It suddenly goes cold.

This is because Lois' brother, Jerome Zerwas was a the time a Lieutenant in The White Bear Lake Police Department and he has the investigation quashed.

Jerry is persistent and she goes to the White Bearlake Police Department and states she thinks that her son who she gave up was murdered due to abuse.

The Jurgens have another son, Robert, during the course of the investigation of Dennis' death . They remove Robert from the home but later on he is returned due to a lack of evidence and a willing District Attorney willing to prosecute for child abuse at the time of Dennis'death.

The climax of this adoption case that goes wrong is that Robert, the remaining son testifies against his mother and he states that he has no doubt that Lois Jurgens murdered his brother, Dennis Craig Jurgerson.

The jury comes back with third degree murder committed in felony assault of a child.

The judge is truly pissed off at the adoptive mother and he tells her if he had his way he would lock her up and throw away the key. He can not so he can only give the sentence allowed back in 1965, which is 25 years in prison and she has to serve no more than eight years before she is eligible for parole.

The tragedy here is that the adoptive father stood by and let it happen. He would take off into the basement to do some wood work while the adoptive mother would abuse Dennis and never try to stop it.

Jerry Sherwood is aided by a Newspaper Reporter and Lois gets what she deserves.

Little wonder why I am so much against Adoption . I have not heard of many happy ending adoption stories.

This one is tragic and could have been prevented if Jerry would have been allowed to keep her first born rather than Adoption agencies and workers telling un-married birth mothers that if they love their children. They will give them up for an adoption and give them a two parent family.

Fairfax County is a tough county to be in and I wonder how many times this happened throughout the state. Thank goodness I refused to let anyone adopt my child when she was born. She is 35 and I am very happy to have her living in a town close by. But then my mother would not have allowed what happened to you and this lady because she took the baby home when I had to stay in the hospital.
