Students have been using Simple Steps to Sentence Sense by Charlene Tess since 1996, and now she has written a version for younger students and those who are learning English as a second language.
If you have tried to use a grammar text lately, you know it can be overwhelming. Even if you do figure out where to begin, the practice exercises often contain sentences that are difficult and confusing to students. This book is different. It contains carefully constructed sentences that incorporate only the elements that have been introduced to that point in the program. This eliminates the frustration students and teachers often feel while using a standard textbook.
This book is written expressly for younger students and for students who are learning English as a second language. The lessons you will present are succinct. It is important that you follow the five steps in this book in sequence. Do not go on to the next lesson until you are sure your students have mastered each concept.
The Writing Connection pages in each step provide practice in usage skills and writing original sentences. And, of course, the answers are at the back of the book to make your life easier.
