Too Often Upon a Mattress

For several years we saved the mattress guarantee
along with other important papers. After that no one
thought about the age of the item on which we
entrusted a night's sleep.

Over the years, and without being noticed,
our mattress became older than the guarantee,
but we kept sleeping on it and it and
wondered why we had backaches.
while sleeping only a few hours. Sadly, after
full nights we were more tired than the aged mattress,
and the next day, in my crabby mood, and
I almost lost my job.

The story is much older than the oldest worn mattress,
but I ask, what is there about our neglect of,
and ongoing refusal to replace a torture rack
with a fresh smelling contoured place for
deserved sleep.

So true. We have had the same mattress for almost twenty years and we keep saying we need to replace as it was only an econo job to begin with. lol but the bed has changed but never the mattress.
