I would LOVE for everyone who reads and likes my 'poetry,' 'books' and my 'articles' to read my BIO page to see WHY I am writing.
I spent much time last night, on making my BIO page more readable. My eyes almost fell out, onto my laptop (I was writing in bed at the time!)
I am not able to make the BIO page smaller, as there is too much that is very relevant. I guess, that I should make 'articles' or, more important 'poetry' out of the episodes of my life, as I have many more 'hits' on there. So Sad!
But I am a writer, not a poet. It just happens, when I write something that flows like poetry or a song. I don't take more that five or ten minutes doing lyrics, yet I put my life down and many do not bother with the BIO pages!
Mine are not just 'words' for the sake of it! I do not write because I like to see the flow of words. I write from the spirit and if my life is to mean anything at all, it has to be shared by others, insomuch as they will go away after, thinking how lucky they are to have their kind of lives and that they should be much more content and happy.
Those that do not need to empathize with me, to the degree that they have been through most of what I have, should say, "Wow" I am so lucky. Keeping my family and all!"
And then, "and I've never had to beg for my food and try to keep my child out of homes too, and then lost them!"
Also, "If she gets put down by life all the time and at 55, is still going for it, then so shall I, damn it!"
If only other writers would share a bit more of their lives on their BIO pages, it would help me and MANY others, to understand where the writing is coming from, and how it was able to get like that! Readers and Authors are obviously avoiding the BIO pages, as there is hardly anything written there to express any kind of personality! Most of the BIO pages are BLAND! A BIO means a synopsis of your life. It should read as a story! Not just a simple statement of fact, or, a resume!
Come on writers, you are supposed to be able to express yourselves. It is a form of marketing and you should be selling yourselves to the public!
Just look at Joe Tofuri's BIO page! HE has the right idea! JOE has shown he has tremendous personality, humour and charisma. He also has a wonderful picture in there, which helps us to know just how much of a man he is!
Joe also puts writings on his BIO page that draws us in and make us just HAVE to read more! Bravo, Joe Tofuri. He's a great writer indeed!
Make them interested in you first! Then they will want to read more of your writings and you will sell your books! To know the writer/author is to know their work! I am giving this advice because, as a successful UK Performer, I have learned how to 'work' my audience. Why should it be different with writing books? You do want to make money, don't you?
The best writers on here are VERY special people! BUT, from what I have read on their BIO page, it has made me not want to read anything of theirs, unless they have reviewed my work, and by my responding find out that they are interesting (well their writings, if not their BIO about them! COME ON, make this Authorsden site, MUCH more popular than it already is! You can do it! Matt Miller, has worked very hard on making the Author's tools and services, almost second to none! Let's do our part now!
I am not talking about myself, as I do not profess to be more than a 'diarist,' as I only write about life, emotions and pains as I have experienced them through others as well as myself.
Prose and rhyming words can be wonderful, (just look at la Belle's) Now who could do better than that? But, Belle does not tell me enough about her. She has such a wonderful mind, that I want to know how she has got like this. (Perhaps I shall ask her?)
As my post in the 'news' section doesn't show up on the home page, I have now had to write this article. If people like my poetry, if people love poetry so much, WHY DON'T THEY WANT TO KNOW ME?
You are hurting me people and I am supposed to be gettting a thick skin. Well, I can't! I care too much! When all my musical business plans come to fruition (of which there are many and I can not share it yet, unless you want to know me, hee hee) You will be so pleased that you learned all about me, (and perhaps become a friend of mine, through this site, before I was launched!)
I have time to write back and become freindly with you all now, but soon, (as my manager tells me) it will have to be through my fan site, on my new business website that is being set up, which of course will be linked to this, my first and favourite site. I am very sentimental!
I think I have 'beefed' enough for now, but I may have to carry on my 'beefs' if I get no reaction. I am a performer, I need reaction. I am a writer, spill my blood on these pages. I need a reaction!
Don't just keep everything in, that is why you think your lives are so bad. Speak out! The words will make you realize you only feel like this, because you are accepting the situation. YOU DON'T NEED to accept a bad life. I didn't! I WON'T! Make it better and stop feeling sorry for yourselves!
And to all of you that are leading a damn good happy, healthy life. GREAT! Wish I was right now, but it's taking time! May it stay that way for you as you are obviously doing something right! Perhaps you can write about yourselves in here. We could ALL do with some good news.
PLEASE, for my sake, so that people will start reading my BIO page, re-write yours. (And help ourselves too!)

I do feel like loitering around YOUR DEN for a while today as I try to get to know the great lady that you are. I used to have a long BIO page and was encouraged into shortening it for many obvious reasons. I have always been known as being prolix whenever I try and describe my work or myself. I tend to agree with letting people know about us, so hopefully we will encourage them to peek inside our little space of the world. A very dear friend here at AD was the one who told me that the more the outside word knows about you the easier it is for them to attack you.
Believe it or not I am very thick skinned, yet may times I cannot understand why anyone (who I thought was a friend) and who can form a complete sentence does not or refuses to look outside the box. After writing and typing for thirty plus years, I still can only peck away at this darn keyboard with two fingers, which lead me to being accused of NOT reading someone’s post because I used a pre-typed review. The past few months have been extremely busy for me, (many personal reasons) and I did not want the other Authors to think I forgot about them. I have written many (thousands) of pieces of poetry and many (hundreds) of short stories during these many moons and yet have found very few who are willing to travel off the poetry pages into the articles and short stories department that is available to all us, and leave their reviews. They call it no mans land. It makes one become easily discouraged to post anymore in those areas.
I know I have thousands of hits on my stats for my stories but the reviews do not reflect it. On the other hand my poetry gets the reviews and the stats are there too. I would rather write my stories, which I have written hundreds of them, and I have been revising many of them for quite some time. I haven’t been posting as much as I wanted to because too many unscrupulous people cannot create their own work. I am going to end this here but I am sending you the rest of this story through your private e-mail account here. I am going to stick around for a while because I do find your DEN a great place to learn from. Take care and be well. |

| Enjoyed your article Donni Jay but many of us don't want to post too much about our personal lives, we consider it an intrusion into areas we are not comfortable with exposing to the general public. If you are comfortable with that then I applaude you but we are all different regarding such things. I believe that stellar work will sell itself even with a minimum of the author's privacy being invaded. There are many other marketing tools to be used that will not infringe on private lives of those who are uncomfortable with being spotlighted that way. |
