Take a look at what happened when I held a book signing, not in a store, but in a private home.
I have written before about unconventional book signing sites. It was my privilege to have another one on August 4th in Pilot Knob, Missouri. Yes, I do live in Illinois and yes my books have a Decatur, Illinois setting. But...my sweet mother-in-law lives down there and she is my #1 fan! We sent out postcards to all of her family and friends about a week and a half before the event. I placed an announcement in their local newspaper that comes out 2 times each week. Mom also celebrated her 90th Birthday on the Monday before.
I went to get the stamps for the postcards and the Postmaster asked me who I was visiting. When I told him, he said, omg are you Sherri Smith? I had to laugh, but sweet MIL had been sending out copies of my books over the last few years and had even given him a copy of Troubled Water. He was so excited to meet me and asked specifically if he could come to the open house! I thought that was pretty cool.
Ok, the open house was at my MIL's house. I didn't have time to sit and worry if anyone would come, because they started coming early! I didn't have time to get nervous about meeting new people either! It seems like when they started coming, they all came at once. Some even stayed through the entire 2 hour open house! I had great help with my friends Bev and Kim, who came over to serve people cookies and a drink!
Yes it was an unconventional site but totally a success! I made record breaking sales of all three of my books and developed lots of fans and supporters who are begging me to get my third book done! I loved it.
I have had three unconventional site signings, two of the three were a total success! The third one, not so much. But who knows? Can you think of an unconventional signing site? I have more in mind, just need a few more weekends in the month. Another success story! Yoo Hoo!
