April 17, 1993 was a day that I will never forget. First it was the 23rd birthday of my daughter who I lost. And it was the day that I met you! I had answered an ad in the personal pages, just looking for some companionship, someone who I could talk to and maybe have dinner with sometime. I had already gone to Steak & Shake and met one guy. He was a real loser. I had no intention of keeping my date at 7 with another guy. Man, if that was any indication of those that I would meet…then I wanted nothing to do with them! My sister made me see the light and so I went to meet you, the guy in the Cardinal Red Pickup truck, I with my Cubbie blue Metro. I was scared, not sure of whom or what guy I was meeting this time. My first “date” barely lasted half an
hour with the guy from that afternoon.
What I found was an intelligent man, lonely like me, single father with a daughter at home. My rules were:
1) Never getting married again
2) Not marrying for love, but might for money
3) Not marry anyone with kids, especially not with kids at home they were raising!
I broke everyone of those rules; I knew I probably would after I met you. I had never met a man so kind, or sweet or so thoughtful. That is, unless they were someone else’s husband!
We talked for hours, finding many in common. It was wonderful, so comfortable and we talked so easily together. Here was someone who would talk to me!
Well, I am so glad that I broke those rules! In just over 2 months we were married and started our life together. Now 13 years have gone by since that wonderful day. We have been through so much and still we are holding on to each other, loving each other and caring about each other. What a wonderful day that was! I am so glad that I went, and so happy that I broke the rules! Our life together is wonderful and loving. What a difference a few hours made in my life.
