Curvy Women on the Catwalk

Curvy women have no place on the catwalk?

I noticed last week a quote from Karl Lagerfield, fashion designer, that "curvy women have no place on the catwalk" and wondered how someone with such a narrow mind could still be making money out of women.

It's always interested me how fashion gurus believe that models looking like coathangers are a reflection of the female bodies that mainly inhabit our planet.  Sure the clothes look as they are supposed to - no shape, no saggy bits, no bumps.  But how many women actually look that way in reality or indeed wish to?

Noticing that models are beginning to have more meat on their bones and that they are actually flaunting boobs has been a positive - to me anyhow.  In my mind the greatest designers are those that can accommodate a 'normal' female body and make that lady feel like a million dollars, regardless of bumps and boobs and a rear end.  Isn't it time that the people who supposedly dictate the fashion that we will all wear woke up and saw the world as it really is?  But I guess those that are on show in Paris etc are really only marketing to the rich and famous and those ladies starve themselves because they think they have to.  There is no way that the majority of women could ever wear any of those designs.

I looked at the photo of Mr Lagerfield and read a story of my own making from his photo.  I don't really know anything about him but in my mind I decided what and who he is.  He appears to me to be of the gay persuasion who likes women that look like men, hence his lack of tact when describing most of us as 'fat mommies' because we object to seeing models with bodies like coat hangers.  I may well be wrong and if I am then I apologise but that's how I see this person - someone who probably had a bad childhood with no appreciation or respect for his mother and grew up with a very warped attitude towards all females (unless they look like men).

It's refreshing to see that people who are shakers and movers are actually making moves to change the face of fashion and models.  I am sure that the majority of men and women will appreciate seeing women who are proud to have female shapes up there on the catwalk.  I hope that this change will be permanent and all those girls starving themselves into rehabilitation for eating disorders will be able to see the light and eat food that will fuel their bodies as they need to be.  If this happens then people like Mr Lagerfield, who after all has had his day, will either have to change with the times or fade into the woodwork or the salad bar or wherever they can go to be out of our faces and no longer a threat to womankind.
