What are we to do
We Seem to Be Running Out of Preachers.
By J. Vincent Martin
Well it looks like another preacher bites the dust. It does leave one to wonder how God could chose so many of the wrong people to interrupt his words to us. Priests who molest children, Bishops who cover for them, preachers who engage in the very sins they so dramatically denounce? Alas, people indeed, and only people. Let us not forget, that although Judas had also sat at God’s table the words of God are no less true .
Yes, I’d probably make a good preacher myself, for I do have my share of
shortcomings. But I’m afraid I can not help out with the shortage. For preachers claim to speak for God, and I know I can not. For Jesus told the apostles to spread his words, not to “preach” them with their own interpretation of their meaning. Perhaps, that’s where the problem lies. You see, not I, nor any other man or woman can speak for God. In fact, I know of only one man who could, and that was because he is God. He didn’t speak his precious words to scholars and wise men, so they study them and announce the secret meanings within. No,instead he spoke directly to us, in simple terms, as a man himself.
“Love one another, as I have loved you.” “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” Those are only a few his words that were personally spoken to me, as they are personally spoken to you. For only God can speak to all of us, and yet personally speak to each us at the same time. You need only seek out those words, and you will find that God has already explained their meaning to you.
Go in peace and spread those words. For God truly loves you.....But you already know that.
