“Et tu, Brute” whispered Hill and Bill

as they faded into the subplot behind the stage

The MC's yammered on

till Ole'-plug Joe No,

the high priest of hubris.

was preceded by his boy's warm memories

of childhood's midnight tales

Ooh's and Ahhhhh's echoed through the specter

Earlier, outside,

originality sprang to life,

Free expression

loquaciously staged, and demonstrated

through comic pantomime like one-second cutaways

in a fifteen second trailer of those looking

for a better boxcar on the next train

with no glimmer of even a pseudo-conscious light

Yeah, peace marchers got violent

and to characterize their self-loathing

they even proved their victimhood

not by hugging willows,

but by receiving wedgies, welts,

and a long overdue locker room hazing by the police

The anti-capitalism march

that was highlighted on

the DNC convention schedule

did draw a lot of press....

from South America,

the Middle East, and Russia

The girl's in pink however,

drew none at all

other than serial no-life bloggers

and Madame Pelosi was happy for that

China meanwhile was quiet

laying smart and slow

with the Hill-Bill's deep in their pocket

and confident that while we're buying,

it’s all the color of green

As for the others

it is red

with our blood

The blood that forged this great nation

the forces that drive this convention

‘Life sucks, oh look at the baby,

Bush caused the hurricane,

Oh the poor little whale, we’re melllllting

And you have to wonder

At least I do

about a system that encourages

the sickness of entitlement

over personal responsibility,

squanders our hard-earned money and asks for more

pandering to the masses with freebies

and giveaways that only take away

a little piece there

and a larger piece here

and leaves us as the

unwitting creators of a monster that enslaves us

under a perverted cloud

where special interests rule

smiling politicians

are bought and sold

and appointed judges override

our constitutional doctrine

We have arrived at point beyond conventional redemption

and even further from the purest vision of our founders

Our two party system is corrupt

and not representative of the people

The Repubs have drifted

from conservative principals

while the Dems have been hijacked

by a Marxist ideology

which it's members use to deliver a few brisk

slaps of guilt in self-righteous indignity

and a mockery of all that is humble

On all sides

there are prevailing common interests

On both sides

there are pangs of tithing come to bear

On opposing sides

there is egoism

posture and image

And lo', the giant columns have been erected

and tonight the grand production shall commence

The self-named "One" shall rise from the earth

and bask in the spotlight of his own adoration

Change will be his holy word

and the faithful will genuflect in the responsorial hymn

"Yes we can"

But if we need change

it is the kind of change

that leads us back to that apple pie

cooling in the window on a golden autumn day

to that forgotten place

where there are no caps on our dreams

no hands in our pockets

No penalty for success

A place where we can fall
and pick ourselves back up with

the pride and strength that makes us who we are

vigilant in our personal freedom and protecting

our small well earned sliver of that pie
