A little secret to would be writers...
So how do I get my work published? I have heard this from so many people since my first book was published. They believe that published writers have some deep dark secret to success that we are keeping to our self. We do…we keep on writing and never give up hope.
I started writing when I learned how to spell (still not that good at that) and I am still plugging away at it today. I have learned the joy of seeing my book on a bookstore shelf. I have felt the pride of sitting, outside Chapters, with a stack of books and a pen smiling from air to air at the people wanting to have a book actually signed by a real live author. I have read my reviews in the newspapers and felt good about myself when school kids chose my book to do book reports on even if only because it was thin book.
But I paid my dues too. I put up with the taunts of friends and family (not all) who laughed at my first failed attempts to write poetry. I ignored people who told me I would never get a publisher and ignored them again when I didn’t find one right away and they asked if I was a one shot wonder until I signed another book contract. I wrote literally hundreds of stories, poems, plays and songs and each one to me was special and meant something. I wiped tears from some of my pages because the subject meant so much to me. Yes I paid my dues and I never gave up hope that I would be a writer and so now I consider myself one.
So if you want to be a writer I have the secret and I will share it with you…..write!!!

|I know what you mean. I went through all this bad stuff too. When you have a dream, you have to keep the faith no matter what, and I did, and you did too. Congratulations!

|Felix, I am not a writer, and have no real urge to be one. Writing is just my escape from work. But, I do understand about the nay sayers who work to discourage us (for our own good, of course...they nag because they care lol!), and the scoffers in our lives who feel we must be brought to our senses before we ruin our lives by attempting to make creative pursuits our focus for the future.
If one is caught sitting for too long, staring into space, one must certainly be a lazy bum...it never occures to some folks that those day-dreaming, lost-in-thought sessions MIGHT actually be part of our work!
You are so right though. No matter what a person wishes to do in life...the real secret is to just do it...sounds easy, but it's not easy at all for most people. It pays to be stubborn and determined! : )
Enjoyed reading through your pages this morning.
Very nice. Jill

Bravo! For me, many see writing as a *dream*. It's reality. Learn the business, hone your skills and present as a professional. You will be published. Everyone pays the piper. Thanks for sharing!
