The Killers Amongst Us.

As we go about our daily lives, we are surrounded by killers. In the grocery store, at the post office, or sitting in our doctor’s waiting room. The killers are our neighbors, fathers, sons, brothers, and sisters; those who heeded the call from our Presidents over the past 200 plus years. Those who joined the military or were conscripted to serve, were taught to kill. As many and as efficiently as possible to protect others and our way of life; we were taught to shoot guns, fire mortars, use flame-throwers, and cannons.. We were taught to crawl into a hole with nothing more to save our lives than a pistol and a flashlight.

In the wars we did what we were taught to do. Then we were sent home to go to school and become doctors, lawyers and Indian Chiefs. We were from all walks of life and backgrounds. We went back home and put the past behind us. The Bible states “thou shall not kill…” However, the first translations were “thou shall not murder.” Murder is different from killing. The major religions of the world recognize the difference. In some cases killing is called for, plain and simple.

What made us different from murderers? We did not kill for profit, revenge or money. The murderers killed for no reason other than to have what someone else had, to cover a crime or gain control over others. The great military strategist Sun Tzu, wrote “Kill one to frighten ten thousand” in “The Art Of War”. He wrote this over fifteen hundred years ago. In his book he talks of killing people as a means of scaring the population into submission. The homicide bombers today follow the same strategy. They murder to frighten the public into not leaving their homes, running their businesses or helping their neighbors. They do not know who will be next, so they stay close to home and do nothing, letting the murderers have their way.

The only way to stop them is through fighting back. Taking back the streets from the murderers to help the decent folks get back to their lives. It is not just overseas that this is a problem. It is a growing problem right here in our own towns. People lock their doors at night because the drug sellers will murder them if they do not stay off the streets and look the other way while our children are poisoned with drugs. They will murder those who are willing to bear witness against them. We need to be willing to stand on our own two feet and say “no more.” The victims of murder cannot stand up and say “no more.” The murderers only survive because we are unwilling to pay the price to stop them. We do not want to be the one to stand up and say “no more.” Let the drug seller wonder who is willing to stop him. Let them fear for the type of life they wish to lead. Let the car jacker wonder if he or she will be shot in the head when they pull open a car door to steal what another has earned. Most people want other people’s children to do their fighting for them: Not their own, so they let murder and fear breed in our towns, cities and countries. No More.

I am a killer. I did what my country asked me to do. I am willing to stand up and say “no more.” I am willing to stand up with one hand raised to the Creator of All Things and stand before the murderers unarmed. I need to know that if I fall another will stand in my place and say “no more.” That is what it takes. We need to care for our children and the children of others to protect them if they cannot protect themselves. Be it in our own town or across the world. We need to say “no more.” We need to take back our streets. We need to let the murderers know that we will do what it takes to reclaim our communities. Let them fear us because we have stood of foreign soil and killed so others may be free. Let them know we will move them on in peace if we can. I am a Peace Chief of my band. We espouse non-violence. But if shot upon, we will defend our homes, our children and our communities. This is a major problem in Florida. To the point that the legislature has passed a law that “if you feel your life is threatened, use of deadly force is allowable.” It no longer means you have to have a burglar in your house to protect yourself. Just the act of breaking in is enough to allow deadly force. If you have your purse snatched and you kill the criminal, you had the right to do so under the deadly force law. Car jacking, you are allowed to shoot to kill.

The bill has been law for almost a year now. Murder, car jacking, home burglaries have all declined once the criminals fear the victim may shoot to kill. In the past year there have been three shootings under this law. It did not allow for all out vigilante groups in communities. But the crime rate dropped. Citizens are no longer afraid of law suits by the people who rob them if they are hurt or injured in the act of committing a crime.

So when you are out, look at those around you. You will see many killers, even if they never admit to that part of their past. They have stood up before and said “no more.” They need to stand up on our own soil and say it again. I am willing to stand up, unarmed and say “no more.” Are you?
