We are greatly concerned with our outer appearance but sometimes our inner state needs a makeover too.
So much of the world concerns itself with appearances. We worry about what to wear and how we look to others. We get up everyday, pick out the right clothes, fix our hair, put on our makeup and hope that we put forth an appealing face for the world outside. We want to put forth the best the best physical appearance that we can. That's fine, but do we give our internal state the same consideration?
If we go out into the world with a beautiful face, but do not put a smile on that face, how beautiful is it's appearance? It is not just our physical appearance that is viewed by others, but our attitude as well. Our personality comes across in our facial expressions and actions also.
Most of us are desperately in need of a mental makeover at some time in our lives. We can become mentally exhausted as well as physically. This exhaustion can cause us to become irritable, short-tempered, intolerant and very impatient. This is when we realize that we are long over-due for a mental makeover.
The first task at hand is to get proper rest. In order to be able to take care of others, we first have to take care of ourselves.
Working yourself to the point of exhaustion can't be good for anyone. Lack of sleep is not healthy for the physical body or for the mind. Insufficient sleep can cause your emotions to go on a wild roller-coaster ride.
We want to look our best and there's nothing wrong with that, but shouldn't we do everything we can to feel our best also? One way that we can feel better emotionally is to condition ourselves to relax. We can do this through meditation, creative visualization and positive affirmations. We can still our mind and relax our emotions by concentrating on thoughts such as calmness, serenity, peace and joy. Take a walk alone; spend a day in the country. Do whatever relaxes you and calms your spirit.
Sometimes we need a vacation from the daily stresses of life yet most of us are not able to just go off on vacation whenever we feel stressed. We can create our own mini vacations whenever we need them. Send the kids to a friend, take a day off work, go for a ride, or just stay home, lock the door, take the phone off the hook and take a nap. Give yourself a mental makeover. Keep up your inner appearance along with the outer.
