More spiky British humour
There has been controversy over Madonna's decision to bring a little Fair Trade baby from a poor village in Malawi to be brought up as part of her family in England and America.
People are asking is it ethical to do this?
Why not babies for profit I say, we live in an everything for profit world. If rich people can affords to buy babies they should be free to do so. After all the world abandoned humanist ethics two decades ago. Personally I would like to see a Private Finance Initiative to bring enterprise capital into the ophanage business. We could then have faith based orphanages for the pious but trendy, designer orphanages for the rich and famous ("Wow, your adopted baby has three heads and seven limbs." - "Yah, absolutelah, he's from the latest Vivienne Westwood collection.") Other possibilities are budget priced flat pack orphans for low paid key workers, hand crafted orphans for ageing hippies and recycled orphans for the environmentally aware. And of course we could bring back the workhouse for ugly kids from bad parts of town.
