I must admit that I wonder what our founding fathers would say if they were here today. We argue about what can and cannot be said in the pledge. It seems when we vote for a president we are simply voting for the person we will blame all our woes on for the next four years. It is as if we expect one man to make a difference. If this is true why am I not that one man or you?
Better yet, why do we not realize that when we criticize our government it is actually we who are being criticized? After all ‘We the people’ are the government.
But here is a thought. We have a law that no man can run for President more than two terms. This is good but why not put that same limit on congressmen and senators? Better yet, when I graduated high school I signed up for one four year term to serve my country. I got paid modestly but our congressmen spend a lot of time making sure they get raises if nothing else is accomplished.
If they serve because they love their country then they should be satisfied with a modest salary. They don’t seem to agree. Why not let them serve a term or two because they are Americans and then go back to work with the rest of us.
I do not believe the problems we experience today are the fault of Barack Obama. I think we ‘all Americans’ have become complacent. This leads to deterioration. I pray my grandkids will not pay for our complacency.
