Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see… C.S. Lewis

Amazing Happenings by any other name are still miracles. The quote above by C.S. Lewis is one way of putting it. Augustine was quoted as saying it this way.
Miracles are not contrary to nature, but only contrary to what we know about nature.

I must add to this my own thoughts. “The Big Bang theory” if that is really where the whole universe came from would have to be categorized as a miracle. How else could an explosion occur in a void?

Another great writer, Blasé Pascal put it this way;
It is impossible on reasonable grounds to disbelieve miracles.

The dictionary definition of Miracle is this:

1.    An event that appears to be contrary to the laws of nature and is regarded as an act of God
2.    An event or action that is amazing, extraordinary or unexpected.
3.    Something admired as a marvelous creation or example of a particular type of science or skill… such as a miracle of modern engineering.

We live from day to day and sometimes lose sight of the fact that all of life is a miracle. Medical science performs many miracles daily and we think of it as expected but can you imagine what the people living two thousand years ago would have thought if they saw these common day occurrences performed?

Jesus walked on water. Today men float around in outer space. This does call upon us to put all these things in perspective. It would be easy for us today to shrug off the miracles of Christ. Doctors today have prolonged our expected lifespan. It would be easy for us to think we don’t need this God… this creator any more. After all we have our own explanations for how life came to be. The truth though is this. We have only learned part of the secret to life. Part of it even today is beyond our grasp. This is why I still believe in God, the father, the maker of Heaven and Earth.
God bless,
Lew
