Whether your setting is the renaissance or the revolution, the golden age or the dark ages, spice up your fiction with a real life reenactment.
Travel back in time to the Hernando De Sota North American expedition of 1541 in Parkins Arkansas. With a cooler in the tent and a 21st century bathroom near at hand in an air-conditioned museum. But enough about modern conveniences back to the reenactment.
Let your senses spin like wool on a 16th century spinning wheel. Get a feel for both raw and spun wool. Sing a timeless song as you pull the wool along. Listen to the soft rhythm of a maiden carding wool. Take a whiff of a wad of wool as it boils in a cauldron.
Need more excitement? Join the conquistadors at target practice. Jump at the ferocious bang of every shot. Shout viva la Spain when the conquistador hits his mark. Smell the sharp smoky odor of burnt powder after an arquebus is fired. Gaze at a puff of gray smoke momentarily suspended in the air.
Historical reenactments are one means of researching history. Undisputedly the most fun. Search the World Wide Web for reenactments in your favorite periods. Feel free to visit the De Sota 2000 web site and Parkin Archeology State Park web site. De Sota 2004 is being planned.
