From Attribute Listening/Listing to Analogy to "Being Metaphor" is a metacognitive strategy that helps to develop human potential and to harness and transform the human shadow to free up and restore 'true' personal power.

An overview of the Strategy: My poetry has helped me develop this strategy through the translation and transformation of experience into positive forces of learning for the celebration and renewal of personal energy. Its usefulness is to develop human potential and harness the human shadow, through its efficacious path to literacy. I have since discovered that the technique utilizes The Cosmogenetic Principle (Swimme & Barry, 1992). This principle refers to the three dynamic powers which build up order and are found anywhere in the universe: auotopoiesis, differentiation and communion. In my continued searches, I have also found that the metacognitive strategy "Being Metaphor" is also useful to harness and transform the three rules in Nature found to break down order, known as "genetic coding": 1. Be nasty to outsiders; 2. Be nice to insiders; and 3. Cheat whenever possible. (Lyle Watson). The Dynamics of Attribute Listening/Listing, to Analogy, to “Being Metaphor”: How it works 1: Autopoiesis and Attribute Listening/Listing: By developing and refining keen observational skills we learn to read and listen to attributes of uniqueness thereby valuing otherness. Swimme and Berry list the different words that point to this feature: autopoiesis, subjectivity, self-manifestation, sentience, self-organization, dynamic centers of experience, presence, identity, inner principle of being, voice, and interiority. 2. Differentiation and Analogy: By making connections through analogies, a sense of connectiveness is discovered through the similarities and a celebration of diverstity is instilled in the differences. This feature includes: differentiation, diversity, complexity, variation, disparity, multiform nature, heterogeneity, and articulation. 3. Communion and "Being Metaphor”: Through the rehearsal experience of being in metaphor, empathy is seeded in the "as if" mode of seeing and being. The adage "walking in the other person's shoes...or mocassins...or sandals..." is a good way to understand empathy that is developed through “Being Metaphor”. This transformative capacity, then makes it possible to learn the fundamental Golden Rule upheld by all World Religions: to love “otherness” as oneself, even the enemy; to “dwell in goodness” even when “harm abounds”. To love all that the Creator has made is an unconditional love of the Creator: the Triadic Essential of “Being In Love.” Here is another way to explain how the metacognitive strategy works. When Pope John Paul II announced that Toronto would be the place for the World Youth Day 2002, he also directed the youth of the world with the well known biblical words of Christ: You are the light of the world; You are the salt of the earth. By taking on the attributes of light and salt, “Being Light” and “Being Salt” individuals connect back to Christ as the “True Light of the World” and the “True Salt-Wisdom of the Earth” and towards one another in their participation in “God-ness/Good-ness” and in “God-Wise/Wisdom-filled” in their everyday life. The Triadic Essential of “Being In Love” is a whole and holy and wholesome. Its brokenness is evidenced in the human shadow of being or when we embody “Being Metaphor Shadow”. In short, the metacognitive strategy harnesses and transforms the human shadow, (or forces which break down form and energy), by exercising the dynamics powers of form-building in the universe identified by The Cosmogenetic Principle: With "Attributes" - to develop autopoiesis for the respect of uniqueness and the specialness of individuality, making it harder to cheat even when possible; With "Analogy" - to develop an understanding for differentiation and a genuine joy in the celebration of diversity, so as to love others as oneself by being nice to outsiders as well as insiders; With "Being Metaphor" - to develop empathy and communion so that the genetic principle is reduced to the one "Be nice to insiders" nullifying the other two, if all of humanity is envisioned as one loving family on this living planet. In the Christian faiths this is understood with the famous words that sum up the Great Commandment: "Be as One" and "Love as I have loved you".
