THE SPIRIT OF REBELLION
Scripture References: James 4:17, I Samuel 15;23, Psalm 66:7, Deuteronomy 31;27
The spirit of rebellion is closely associated with the spirit of pride. Rebellion is knowing the will of God but refusing to obey will of God. It can also be classified as a form of unbelief – the turning away from Jesus in order to seek satisfaction in other things.
Rebellion is independent actions that deny God’s authority. It is stubborn disobedience and is an idolatrous act because it elevates your will above God’s will. The rebellious walk in a way that is not good, according to their own thoughts, provoking God to anger by continually being in His face (Isaiah 65:2).
Identifying the Character of the Spirit of Rebellion
Ø Open defiance
Ø Rejecting God’s approved leadership
Ø Murmuring against God
Ø Walking after own thoughts
Ø Contentious deposition
Ø Stubborn, defiant spirit
Those walking in the spirit of rebellion don’t try to hide or restrain themselves from what they want. They will walk over you or even step on you in order to acquire what they feel is rightfully theirs. They are openly defiant and have no fear of the Lord or the Lord’s leaders.
Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves (Psalm 66:7b.)
Because the rebellious reject God’s word, God rejects them.
God is reaching out to the rebellious (Isaiah 65:2). He is ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness (Nehemiah 9:17b)
