So... voting is a waste of your precious time, eh...???

Our New War... Part 21, Time to Vote

I’m going to start off this Part by telling you that you can’t learn things without reading books.  Forget much television, forget much of the web, forget what your friends and the politicians tell you… you can not actually learn things without reading books.  And you need to read a wide variety of books, with differing opinions about the same subject, or you won’t get the benefit of reading those books.

One of America’s most serious problems is that ours is an “instant gratification” society.  We want what we want, right now, no waiting for us, thank you.  Each of us thinks we have the right to be first and get the most.  We have become a nation of adult children.  We were coddled and catered to by our parents, who demanded very little of our childhood and really didn’t bother – or even know how -- to raise us properly, because their parents failed to raise them properly.  We have lost the lore of the American family – formerly passed down, from generation to generation -- and we are in trouble because of that loss.

Too many students think they don’t need to exert much effort to learn while in school.  Too many college students can afford to attend those colleges because of the financial sacrifices their parents made, but spend inordinate amounts of time partying and having sex instead of excelling academically.  And they expect the world to owe them a living instead of realizing they must work hard and contribute to the world around them if they are ever to attain a fulfilled life or find a strong and loving long-term relationship.  Too many people are finding that loads of money and material possessions are poor foundations for lasting relationships.  I see many of these people, approaching the ends of their lives with no wives / husbands, and children who care very little, if at all.  I see the loneliness and bitterness as they rail against the world around them as if that world had treated them – and only them – unfairly.  And so they die lonely and miserable, because when they were children, nobody ever taught them that life doesn’t owe any of us anything.

And so, now it’s time to vote.  But many of you will simply not vote, because you wouldn’t exert any more effort than you would to let another car in front of you, even though the other driver courteously used their turn signal to let you know they needed to change lanes and were “asking” for your permission to move in front of you.  Or voting would take the same effort needed to pick up an item accidentally knocked on the floor while shopping and put it back on the shelf.  Or it would take the same effort to hold a door open for someone, or to thank someone for holding a door open for you.  Yeah… that “being polite” thing sure is a waste of time… just like voting.  Besides… your one vote won’t count, anyway.  All those millions of “one votes” really wouldn’t count… right?

Well… those votes do count.  And the lack of genuine knowledge of political issues -- plus voter apathy -- has resulted in the government we all enjoy, today.

Only one person is going to improve the political climate… and that person is you, the voter.  You can spout all the excuses you want, but that’s all they are… excuses.  Because the truth of the matter is… because of you, judges are making up their own laws and forcing them on all of us.  Because of you, judges are letting child molesters and rapists and killer car drivers get off with little or no punishment.  Because of you, lawyers are making a bundle suing everyone else for your lack of common sense and maturity.  Because of you, Congress is doing a bang-up job of ruining our nation.

That’s right… I’m blaming it all on you.  Does that upset you?  Well, I certainly hope so.

But, you’ll probably just cop an attitude against me… and still not do what’s right… because you’re a free American… and you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.  You don’t even have to give a damn, while this country slides into social chaos… because that would take too much effort on your part… too much effort to vote.

And don't cast your vote, based on any political ad!  They are propaganda!  You can check congressional performance by reading the official Congressional Record.  There are no lies there... just the truth of how our Senators and Representatives actually carry out -- or fail to -- your wishes for your country's future.
