Is the Catholic church to blame for having pedophiles in their midst? As much as the world is.

Once again all eyes are focused on an institution. I have come to the end of my patience with this society. Almost every day we are caught up in some action against the government, or an institution, or a group of some kind, or suing some company, or transportation service, etc.etc.etc. ad nauseum... Is the Catholic church to blame for having pedophiles in their midst? As much as the world is.

Folks where are we? We live in a world of sin. Where freedom here in America was fought for and won, and with it comes all the dregs that a free society creates. We have accepted adultery, abortion, homosexuality, drink, drugs, xrated living in all it's ways, MTV, our culture is rife with it. So, how do we spend hours each night on the News and Talk shows acting like this problem in the Catholic church is something new and beyond our understanding? Of course it's wrong, it's terrible to allow children to be abused, but where were the parents? Where were the other adult authorities? How did it get to such a state?

By allowing all of the freedom of sexual activity and lack of moral character which we have seen in our culture for so many years now. It is coming to fruition with all the lovely "Live and let live" "let it all hang out" hollywood lifestyles which we have adopted as our own. After all they are much more glamorous, especially to our children. The whole generation has been raised on MTV and violent sexual films and music, which have been the mainstay of our culture and now we have someone to blame. So let's all blame it on the Catholic Church. An institution.

I left the church 20 years ago because of doctrinal differences. I am not coming to the churches defense, not by a long shot. However, this problem is not unique to the Catholic Church. It is a societal problem that has been ignored like all the others that we have turned our backs on. We have a culture run rampant with no personal accountability. So in order to get our guilt appeased we piggy-back onto these events when they come along and we all scream foul to the high heavens. Yes, the church has to be held accountable, but so do we and our society.

I hope every priest pedophile is disrobed and sent to jail. I mean every one no matter how high the office. I also hope that every pedophile in society would be caught and jailed, and especially that those who are freed from jail and walking the streets to abuse again (and there are many) would have to live under lock and key somewhere forever. There isn't anything to be done it seems. They get their one or two year sentence and some are back out in 6-8 months to scout out their next victim. Where is our society then. Why aren't we screaming about it.

Why aren't we taking measures to be more responsible in our own individual homes. Raising our children on the morals we know work. Having an open communication system that allows our kids to come directly to us no matter what, and if not us, at least someone who will help them to address the problems that arise. pedophiles no matter what their vocation are abominable. Yes it's worse with clergy who are supposed to be representing all that is good to us. Yet, that doesn't lessen the crime in others. We have to find a way to contain this lifestyle, with or without a church being involved.

I'm so sick of our sham society I just can't say anymore.

Three Wishes: Grace Mercy Peace.

I disagree wholeheartedly! There is a vast difference between the blame game and the awareness game. I play the awareness game, for the blame game inducts all in the hALL of shame: Hebrews 11: "these all died" and "received not the promise".

Eileen herself played the blame game by stating "we live in a world of sin"; for biblically using accusation-all law to impute sin to anyone, or the world in general, imputes sin and death unto all. God did not send his Son to condemn(law) the world: John 3:17. God did not impute sin to any: 2Cor 5:19.

All impure religions do it, childishly impute sin for the "hell" of it, not just the Roman Catholic or Protestant flavors of such a devilish popsicle unaware and unlearned children suck on, and perhaps as babes not yet weaned from the law. My God people it's AD (not BC), and we are not under the law: noted twice for those twice fallen in Romans & Galatians, but rather under grace. We are "delivered from the law", and for nearly 2,000 yrs already.

Yet due to many coming, and to deceive, many are thereby deceived, still saying Peace & Safety (allegory: Grace & Law), safety in law, when the evidence is overwhelming, irrefutible, there is no safety in the law. A common phrase about law: I know it's not fair, but it's the law. Well, if it's not fair, then let's all flush it, as dung.

The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. When we look closer at such comparison of law/grace by Moses/JC in Jn 1:17, we'll see it's also allegorically compared as lie/truth. Let's dare compare the two contrary things in Jn 5:45, and see law is revealed as the accuser of the brethren in Revelation. Selah.

EILEEN - Well Done, Lass!

I concur wholeheartedly! I was baptized, raised as a Catholic, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, attended 8 years of Parochial school,
was an Altar Boy, ergo spoke Latin, went to RETREATS each year of High School, passed 2 years of H.S. Latin with a 95 average, got Married Catholic, Baptized 2 beautiful children and raised them Catholic, was married 34 years, then BINGO! (pun intended) She decided she wanted FREEDOM!

Now, does all that diatribe mean I was a religious FANATIC? HELL NO!
ROOTS and FAITH are paramount to learning VALUES and TRYING to lead a good life with GOOD EXAMPLE! Around the age of 17, I discovered a fellow who was way ahead of his time, hundreds of years ago. One particular quotation impressed me immensely, and I ADOPTED it as my
philosophy of life, to wit:

"This above all else, to thine own self be true. For as surely as night follows day, thou canst not be false to any man!" Perhaps some of our AD compatriots have heard of the play? HAMLET!

My "deal" then became very personal with my GOD - whatever occurred thereafter was strictly between HIM and me. Any Established Religion
is a good thing for BEGINNING the foundation and the MOLDING of Character, but BLIND FANATISM is probably equal to, or worse than ATHEISM!

Just like guns DON'T kill people - PEOPLE DO! The same principle applies to all other SINS - Pedophilia, rape, murder, Theft, Embezzlement, you name it - BAD PEOPLE DO BAD THINGS - and if a Left-Wing "Bleeding Heart Liberal" SOCIETY does not MAKE THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME - SHAME ON ALL OF US - for standing idly by, doing nothing, and ALLOWING it to happen - OVER, and OVER, and OVER - as you said: Ad nauseum!

THAT, my friends is the true definition of INSANITY! "BLAME IT ON MIKEY!" "It's not HIS/HER fault!" As Teddy Roosevelt was wont to say:
"HORSE-FEATHERS!"

"We are the sum total of our education, training, and experience" and if WE THE PEOPLE - sell our Birth-Rights "down the drain" by being too DAMNED BUSY to SPEAK OUT AGAINST WRONG - then may GOD HELP US - because ONLY HE CAN!!!

CRIME & PUNISHMENT happen to be a sore subject for me. If I had my way, there would be HOURLY flights of speedy jetplanes flying over the Arctic Circle - Convicted SECOND Offenders would be KINDLY PARACHUTED DOWN TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES - THERE WOULD BE NO SUCH THING AS THIRD OFFENDERS! NOR CROWDED JAILS - THIS MONEY WOULD BE BETTER SPENT AIDING VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES - AS it says in Leviticus " An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth..."

Eileen, sorry for the "soap-box" ramblings - Gee, doubt if I would ever get elected anywhere NOW!

Peace, Joy, and LOVE to ALL - But - "Don't MESS with Mother Nature!"

Why the Catholic Church let this go on for such a long period regardless of their reasoning is beyond comprehension. Sending these sick priests to doctors only to have them abuse more children later should have been caught by any right thinking priest or Bishop. I hope this scandal gets all of the pedifile priests out of the church and into jail where they belong. This was known a long time ago but nobody in the press wanted to attack the Catholic Church. Being a staunch church going Catholic I was sickened at how this went on for such a long time and left hundreds of victims suffer through a life time because of inaction on the part of those in charge in the church. I only pray that this never happens again.

I think is all boils down to society and each of us as individuals projecting our "shadow" stuff" on an open season target. Our world does seem to be highly sexualized, but I don't think all is lost. We are evolving, if ever so slowly in some areas, and children certainly do need more protection. Bringing the situation out in the open though, even by scapegoat means, has its own merit. Awareness is something everyone needs a good flowing dose of. Excellent article; you made some good points in a wonderfully clear way.
