You never know what that darned cat will do!

Here I find myself now attached; her name is Mandi and she's only eight weeks old. I always said I would never have a cat--always went for dogs--but relatives were pressing me as were friends to get "some" type of companion. When they all said--not in unison fortunately--that "You need a companion," my first thought was for the two-legged kind. That caused those suggestors to pause, then pick up pace and say, "No, silly, I meant an animal....of some kind." After all, I don't live far from the dog pound. Oops! Animal pound!! 'scuze me!
Although I did not immediately start looking, I kept thinking, "Keep it small....whatever you get." I knew I would be traveling to St. Louis for various doctors' appointment and maybe even surgery, so I ruled out dogs from the gitgo: they could be lumbersome AND very dependent on a human for their care. Those eyes would be looking at me with "Feed me!" written all over their faces. "Clean my poop, give me a bath, take me for a walk, feed me. Where's my fresh water?" Cat, on the other hand, could be given fresh water, new cat food (dry) and a litter box. I could almost hear one of them saying, "Go ahead. Be gone a few days. I'll make it just fine." And, I believed every word I pictured in my head.
So, a cat it was. Born on a farm out in the middle of nowhere, AND I DO MEAN NOWHERE!!! No tail, black as night with a white spot under her neck. Sky blue eyes and "very" sharp claws. When pressed for a name after I chose her over the rest of the litter, the only name that came to my mind was Mandi. I liked spelling it with an 'i' so I wouldn't get in trouble with Barry Manilow for using Mandy, although the song drifted around in my head while we drove home.
That was almost two weeks ago and Mandi's mew and sharp claws keep reminding she's mine. Mine to love, hold, cuddle, sleep with (won't take a person's place), and watch her grow and become very independent of me. If she's not digging her sharp claws into my bare legs to climb into my lap, she's somewhere sound asleep.
Now to figure out how to tame that beautiful stalion I saw and get him house trained...... (lol)

| lol. I had a cat named Mandy and Barry Manilow never complained as far as I know. I have three cats and 2 dogs. I hate to leave home and love to sit around with them. At least the nest doesn't feel so empty. Loved the story. Liz |

Enjoyed, I too am a feline lover, we have an old mama cat on our farm and now many offsprings have begun their own families, but I still find myself being partial to the mama cat...her name well, it suits her after so many litters of kittens...it's Boobs! Yeah, we don't call her name outloud very often, think my daughter inlaw gave her that name, not sure! Wherever it came from, it stuck. She's a great old girl, good mouser, always enjoys a pet on the head, never runs in the house unless invited, and doesn't sleep on the hood of your vehicle. A great little mother as well, who could ask for more! Enjoyed this my friend!
Blessings,

Back when I was a kid, about a week ago, no longer then that, we had a cat named Sunny and one day I said to Sunny, Sunny, don't take this the wrong way but I think that cats in general are sneaky, self-centered and very lazy...Sunny told me then that he'd sent a special message to all the cats in the universe that I was evil...and to this day there has been no mention of a treaty between cats and me.
But yours sounds OK...for a cat, and this was a very good write.
Peace and good luck with Mandi

Very amusing and good write George, I have had a cat ("Frigga,
old norse mythology., 2n wife of Odin". for 17 years, she is still like a kitten and I am her slave. I love dogs but felt the same as you. She will bring magic into your life and hide when she does not like someone before you suspect anything. as an early warning device. Waves of love to you and Mandi }}}}}}}} Barbara |
