Networking For You
by Ted L Glines
I am constantly seeking more effective ways of networking. I do not have a book I need to promote, and I am currently not intending to publish one. I have a fairly decent footprint on the Internet browsers. So, why do I care about researching this? Simple. I love marketing and promotions, and I know that you are needing to push your book(s), push your name, and push your works. Thirty years ago, I would have been a hot-shot agent. Times have changed, and the Internet has altered our world-view. Let's see what today offers to us.
Liz Cosline, a favorite AD/TWF member, invited me to join Networkers United Worldwide (http://www.nuworldwide.com/) -- interesting site with a high potential for promoting you, your individual works, your books, and your activities. I am just beginning to probe this site's potential but, thus far, I am impressed. Overall, this is a site for professionals interacting to push their services, sort of like CraigsList on steroids, with a difference (you have to be approved, and what you post is monitored). You might want to check out their Blog and what you can do with that. There are add-ons like “YourMagz” where you may produce your own online magazine, and this has wonderful promotional potential for those who understand the magazine concept.
In the wake of Microsoft's announcement that they are closing down all of their MSN Groups, we see millions of MSN Group members scrambling to find a new home for their interests. MSN Group Managers/Owners, especially, are desperately looking for other viable venues. Frankly, most of the other venues, like Yahoo Groups, FaceBook, MySpace, do not measure up to the old MSN Group standards and capabilities. The movement option being offered by Microsoft (Multiply) is worthless for the Page Design and Message Board needs of displaced MSN Group Manager/Owners.
Lefora is an interesting option (http://www.lefora.com/) -- a FREE option where you may create the perfect archive for your works and market your books, etc. Or your Lefora site can also become a group social event, if that is what you need. Come look at my own Lefora site (http://museatwork.lefora.com/forum/) and explore the possibilities, even though I am only using it (currently) as an archive. You will be welcome. One of the biggest advantages with Lefora is that anything you post in any category will be also posted sequentially on your Lefora Blog, thus creating an online Book of your works. And you will find that this effort will boost your footprint on the Internet browsers. This is worth doing.
Basic Promotion 101 on the Internet is simply this: Create an archive of your works and books and activities on every Website available. If you do this, your book sales will increase, your personal Name popularity will increase, and your favorite messages will be impacting more people. Is this worth doing? You bet!
Marcia Miller-Twiford, AD/TWF member, is Webmaster and Hostess for The Writing Forum, a splendid showcase site which she has been developing for 10+ years, and TWF shows her depth of expertise in the excellent beauty of her site-member's archives. On most sites, your works will be listed seperately and can be accessed by titles. On TWF, your archive will begin at the top with a glorius graphic presentation, and then your Bio, and your Website- and Book-listings, and then on down to your poems; a true Internet Book for you. Basic Membership in TWF is FREE but many of the TWF members donate $25+ per year to help with the Website costs. Helping, like Networking, is a good thing. And, again, TWF boosts an upgrade in your footprint on the Internet browsers. (http://www.thewritingforum.net) It is a win-win deal.
Networking? There is no trick to networking. Networking is a simple matter of getting your stuff out there in as many places as you can, and making an effort to communicate once you get there. If you are reading this, then you are already running toward the front of the pack and all you need is a bit more effort to put yourself into the Winners' Circle. You can do this.
Postpone your efforts = Delay your benefits.
Good writing/promotion to You!
