17 February 2009 - My computer died a lingering and horrific death, and the culprit called itself "Spyware Project 2009" - bad news ...

I had been browsing a site named "" when this virus hit. There were several pop-ups, including pop-ups which were blank white squares on my screen. Then came "Spyware Project 2009," and it all went downhill from there. At the end, the computer kept shutting down, and was unable to fully open Windows, ending with an error 128 which said something about "...unable to open ...documents and settings/services.exe" and a shut-down notice.

Apparently, this virus has several names, including "Spyware Project 2009" and "AV Pro 2009" and maybe others as well.

This one comes on as a pop-up in the midst of several other pop-ups, and it appears like it is coming to the rescue. There will probably be no "x" at its upper-right for exiting, and there will be a "Next" button. DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING. Shut your computer off and reboot.

Below are several snippets from googling "spyware project 2009" - this one is new but already well-known.

Note: You may wish to copy the above and pass it on to others. You might save someone's computer.

Thanks to this virus, I now have a brand new HP Laptop - an expensive lesson!!!

I don't go anywhere, or open any mail from someone I don't know. Hopefully, that way I'm safe. Those that create viruses to wreck lives of others ... get a rope. GRRRRRRRR

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
