Here come the Chics . . . .

If this title offends you on some level, even marginally, congratulations . . . read on.

If it does not, or if it leaves you blank, go watch television-”Girls gone wild” or perhaps the first five minutes of “CSI Miami”. You could also go find some Chic-Lit, which is now in vogue for just such Chic-Fans or watch a Chic-Flic; they seem to have their own TV channels now as well. If you are a writer of Chic-Lit, make sure you do your research, go to a 'Rave', do some coke or E (no Pepsi for you) and find out who is sleeping with whom. That's what I call the “Chics and Studs” routine (I renamed that from “Sluts and Studs” so it would not sound so offensive). When you grow up, if you survive all that, you can explain to your children why their brains have been fried along with yours.

And if you are female and survived these years past age twenty-five, you can join the ranks of the former Chics by becoming one of the “Girls.” They also seem to have their own TV channels, which will help you practice your giggly laughs and making sure you are up on all the latest methods to manipulate the male of the species. This will have the advantage of you being able to credibly join a group of “Girls or Girlfriends,” to then gossip extensively about your worthless husbands or lovers or boyfriends. Among your group, it's the thing to do. In a positive development, “Chics and Girls” now seem to have their own birth control brand. Recently. “Yaz” came on the market and if that does not sound like a Chic-product, then watch the TV commercials in favor of its use.

I have a theory and I need to start at the beginning to follow the evolution of the “Chics and Studs.” Mother raises her girl-child and mother raises her boy-child. Mother, being a former Chic herself, teaches girl-child that boys and men are only after one thing and then proves to them how she can manipulate those desires to her advantage. Mother may not be very upfront about her teachings but in a million little ways the girl-child gets the idea . . . and starts practicing, first with ever-so-cute pouts and tears, later with smiles, wiggles, suggestive postures and a minimum of appropriately latest-style clothes.

Mother teaches boy-child, again through a million little manipulations, that the female is really superior and he should respect them and always submit and cater to the upcoming females in his live. The “Stud” in the household, also otherwise known as father, is required to support Mother on this because, after all, he allegedly does not even know that he was manipulated and has no real way to convince his wife, Chic-Mother, that he is really independent. She probably will let him think he is but, in fact, knows better. He also cannot effectively influence this raising of the future generations since that would require a self-assured male in the household who has seldom yielded to female manipulation. There are such men?

When a “Chic”runs across an adult male who is self-assured, likes honesty and integrity, who loves his woman to be straight-forward and strong-willed, as a partner not an object, without the noxious attributes of engaging in imposing their will on others, they will avoid them. “Chics” cannot afford such a relationship since it would take away all their self-imagined powers of manipulation. Sure, at first, the “Chic” would consider this a challenge since she cannot believe that her manipulative feminine wiles do not work on such men but, in the end, she needs to stay clear for her own sense of self-preservation. After all, there are plenty of “Studs” around to whom she can spread her assets in the hope that a rich one will fall into her trap. Once that happens and she is satisfied with her catch, she will declare herself to be in love, get married, and set about to raise the next generation of “Chic-lets.”

Divorce rate data in the USA are very much dependent on who collects the statistics and which time periods are measured. Thus, I will not bring forward any of that data but I would surmise that any “Chic-Stud” marriage cannot hold out much hope of surviving the self-absorption, the lack of self-respect and the tendency to view each other as desirable objects. When beauty fades in later years, these two “objects” will have to rely on more inner values which, if they have not been developed, simply may not be there.

While television is not a true indicator of reality, per se, it does have a tendency to influence our young generations to mimic the adorable behavior of 'Chics and Studs', exposing their vital assets without which a Chic would really feel naked. One might notice how often Chics indulge in seemingly lesbian behavior, the overt kissing and fondling of each other, which undoubtedly is designed to attract the easily manipulated males to consider them as available, without charge.

In this great land of ours, are there women who abhor the lack of self-respect Chics' behavior indicates? And is this behavior not also strongly indicative of a total lack of respect for others, particularly the males of the species? Of course. Why else do these Chics claim they can manipulate any male to do their bidding and are even proud of their, to some others disgusting, display of anatomy?

The vast majority of women in this country, I would bet, are embarrassed by the careless attitudes and displays by Chics. Most will not have been raised in that fashion and such females will have another very positive attraction in that they actually like men. Not just for what they “all want”, but in a more traditional sense of having integrity, honesty, courage and honor and are loyal to a fault. Such men are also immune to the manipulative wiles of those with looser morals of which Chics and Studs have heard but seldom practiced. But how can our young males develop respect and a true like of females when the norm is held out to them as being free and easy, without any accountability of gross behavior? To put to rest the often made allegation that men and women cannot be friends because sex gets in the way: pure bunk. Chics and Studs would like to believe that they cannot as it gives method to their own immorality. In fact, they are simply operating on a base level which gives no chance to true inter-gender friendship. The raising of our children fails miserably in that respect and there are no remedies.

The fortunate encounter that led to our marriage, in existence now for over forty years, is a case in point. From day one, this beautiful woman in her prime had a demeanor of uncompromising directness without guile, a refusal in her flirtations-which she denied-to trade on her physical assets, however abundant, and an unstated challenge and demand for integrity that left no room for base-line behavior. An author in her own right, she still absolutely refuses to be objectified but has always managed to have more life-long male friends than female friends.

Females are a delightful component of the human race. No adjective alone can adequately describe the myriad attractions they offer, as long as they come with a character of self-respect, honor, courage, integrity and a perhaps an old-fashioned sense of morals. And I do prefer females who like men for their differences and a belief that men, too, can be moral, upright, loyal and honest. Based on my affinity for females, Chics offend my sensibilities which, of course, they seem to interpret as weakness of some sort but it is simply not a real perception, just a self-defensive response of a Chic unable to manipulate a male, any male. A sad state of affairs and it seems to be getting worse. They will, of course, never know what they are missing until it is way too late – or perhaps never.

Well, it's time to end these musings, one man's opinions. Did I mention that we have four daughters who will attend our family dinner tonight? A challenge, each and everyone. One still resides at home, the others should be here shortly and it will be a noisy event, to be sure. Time to break out the wine – and the battle fatigues, perhaps.

Ah, here they come now . . . .

This is so right-on. Certainly much of the current crop of sitcoms (and many reruns)foster this chick-Barbie mindset designed to drill itself into our brains when we are in a semi-coscious state in front of the TV set, but that is another essay. Charley, this is great, you'll be hearing from me know what THAT means :-)

Normally I read and continue on without making any comments, however this essay deserves comment.

You, sir, have hit the nail on the head as far as I am concerned. Being the mother of two girls and one son myself, it was a battle getting them raised. The world does set two different standards. I have never liked a lot of the chicky man-bashing that television and media put out there.

Thank goodness my three darlings (sometimes) have grown into decent, loving people. Hopefully the next generation will keep themselves covered in public and will learn that men (my personal favorite) and women can indeed be friends and work together equally in the raising of decent children.
