The Truth about new Obama TV Ad
In a new political ad on television, an announcer blames “secretive oil billionaires” for attacking Obama, boasts that he created 2.7 million “green jobs,” claims he has lessened America’s dependence on foreign oil, and says that he has made changes which have made Washington “more ethical.” The truth? It’s much different. If you interpret the statements to mean that policies enacted by the administration have added 2.7 million new jobs in which people manufacture solar panels and exploit wind energy, made sweeping ethics reforms, and reduced energy consumption, well, that’s what Obama camp wants you to believe. But it’s all a big lie.
The ad cites a study released by the Brookings Institute which is a partisan liberal think tank. The Brookings Institute, does not claim that 2.7 million “green jobs” have been created by this administration. On the contrary, in the report mentioned by the ad, the Brookings study identifies 2.7 million as simply the total number of jobs in what it calls, the “Clean Economy.“ To date, no more than 140,000 green jobs have been added to the country‘s “clean economy,“ and Obama had little or nothing to do with creating them. Even those jobs are not all in the area of manufacturing solar panels and such.
According to Brookings, a bona fide “green” job is simply one in which there is a positive impact on the environment as a result of the company‘s goods or services, and these include jobs in waste management, public transit, and many other businesses and government services. Of the 2.7 million “green” jobs, most of them were created before Obama occupied the White House. The only thing this administration has done about jobs is to end them, through reckless economic policies, and enacting energy bills that contain no energy. Nationwide, there is still a five-million-job net loss under Obama’s watch. Unemployment is at 9.2%, the highest in 41 years.
What’s more, Obama’s 2008 campaign promise was to create five million “new green jobs,” and there are not now five million jobs total in all areas of the broadly-defined “Clean Economy.” That’s a promise broken. One day, solar and wind energy will compose a much larger sector of the economy than it does now. But nothing, no government edict, no Congressional act, no billion-dollar investments, will make solar and wind energy affordable for the average middle-class household with the technology of today. Presently, if you cover your roof with solar panels, and add wind turbines to provide energy to your home, it will cost more money over 20 years, than the cost of the energy that you now purchase from the electric company. When you add the cost of equipment failures over 20 years, it’s a losing endeavor.
Those “secretive oil billionaires” refers to Koch brothers, whose front group, Americans for Prosperity, accused Obama of cronyism regarding the deals he made with Solyndra. What deals? The Obama administration allowed Solyndra--a maker of solar panels--to obtain $535 million taxpayer dollars in loan guarantees for their business, and when they went bankrupt, the administration continued to give your money to them. Solyndra’s founder was a big donor to Obama’s 2008 campaign.
Let no one deceive you, the claim that man’s use of fossil fuels resulted in global warming or “climate change” has been completely debunked. Science is never proven by consensus where a simple majority wins the day. No, scientific discoveries are proven by demonstrable evidence, and demonstrable evidence for climate change simply does not exist. The bottom line is that if you want to recycle, purchase a hybrid automobile, or insulate your home better, go ahead, these are all wise things to do and may save you some money. But don’t think that your conservation efforts are going to save the planet from doom. They won’t. The planet is not in danger.
The new Obama ad also claims that America’s oil foreign dependency is below 50%, and wants you to think that this comes as a result of Obama policies. Not so fast. The truth is that a trend of lowering dependence on foreign oil began in 2006, and for a variety of reasons such as increased domestic production, not as a direct result of the “Clean Economy.” What’s more troubling and cause for higher gasoline prices, is the fact that we now import more gasoline (not just oil) than ever before, because we do not have the refining capacity we need, and Obama‘s supporters will not allow any new ones to be built.
Finally, the Obama ad claims to have made ethics improvements in the government. One thing that Obama promised in 2008, was that he would “stop the revolving door of lobbyists” who subsequently received federal jobs. Obama has hired two of these former lobbyists. The nonpartisan fact-checking organization, Politifact, calls Obama’s record “a broken promise.” This is not exactly a glowing endorsement.
What’s worse is the underhanded way the administration has appointed agency heads--without the consent of Congress. That‘s a far more serious breach of the public trust. The independent actions of this administration which circumvent the Constitution, are very troubling and illustrate a deep-rooted contempt for it.
To be fair, political ads nearly always exaggerate the accomplishments of a candidate. But where this ad is different is that it hasn’t even a shred of truth in it. The claims made and those alluded to are all 100% false.
Americans have record unemployment, the highest gas prices ever, inflation cutting into their incomes, and investments that are worth a fraction of what they were before Obama took office. There is barely a shadow of truth in the new Obama ad and he’s hoping that you will not learn the truth. Now that you know it, what are you going to do?
