What is deliverance?
When things happen or are about to happen that causes us pain or discomfort we want God to quickly intervene and rescue us so we don’t have to go through it. But is that what God does? Is that deliverance? Daniel was thrown in to the lion’s den; God did not step in to stop it from happening. God delivered Daniel inside of the lion’s den by shutting the mouths of the lions and keeping Daniel within the safety of His love. The three Hebrew boys were thrown into the fiery furnace; did God prevent it from happening? No, God joined them in the furnace, quenched the heat of the flames, loosed their bonds, and kept them safe in His love. When they came out there wasn’t even the smell of smoke on their clothes. Deliverance isn’t God preventing something from happening. Deliverance is God carrying us safely through what is happening. Keeping us in His peace as we go through and come out on the other side unharmed, with greater faith and a testimony of God’s greatness and ability to turn what looks like disaster into an opportunity for God to get Himself glory because He is just that awesome.
