Thriller Author On Terrorism Mission
INDIANAPOLIS, July 10, 2001 -- Author-speaker, Craig O. Thompson, began the kickoff for a personal mission to help American communities practice better preparedness against terrorism on our homeland, and to mitigate the threat of NBCRW--Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, Radiological Warfare.
Thompson, an expert on terrorism, has provided his services to various community media organizations during the pre-publication stage of his new book, OMAR: A Novel.
In the late eighties, he just set out to write an action-adventure thriller. Years of research and study about terrorism and “NBCRW” at once alarmed and startled him. He thought about his loved ones and our compromised national security. And Thompson has been on a mission to inform the public ever since.
Why? The current position of virtually every noted think-tank in America parallels the premise of Thompson’s suspense thriller, OMAR —A Novel, The question is not IF NBCW attacks will continue to happen on our homeland...the question is only WHEN.
Based on historical fact, OMAR is a literary novel of suspense, intrigue, greed, pride, and world politics. Shortly after the beginning of the Twentieth Century, two men—a London antiquarian book dealer, and the acclaimed bookbinder and illuminator to His Majesty the King—commissioned and created “the most magnificent bookbinding in the world”...and what became the Veddar Edition jewel-laden binding of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
While enroute aboard an ocean liner, to its new owner in America, the ship foundered and sank. Eighty-three years later, the binding--worth well over $30 million if found--became the object of an underwater race. Terrorists, mercenary divers, and the U.S. government head for the ship’s site in a chase that could change the face of world politics...and strike fear in the heart of every democratic nation.
The sacrificing of values, to accomplish greater ends, compete with the very real possibility of terrorism’s arrival on democratic shores. In OMAR: A Novel Thompson has shrewdly chosen to use the Titanic (the actual ship that carried the famous binding) as a base for his modern-day, deep-sea action. In the process, Thompson has also chosen a refreshingly new point-of-view as an ingenious tactic to weave previously unknown information about the famous ship into the plot.
Thompson holds a B.S. and M.A. in Education from Northern Arizona University. As a marketing and advertising professional, and arts management consultant, he has been writing for over 25 years. Currently, Thompson is working on three new novels and the adaptation of two screenplays. As a member of the National Speaker's Association and International Platform Association, he was also published in an anthology titled “Star Spangled Speakers. “
