First, let's start with how much cash Americans carry.
Under $20.......32% , $21--$50..........43%, $51--$100.......18%, $101--$500..... 6%, $501--$999,.... .6% $1,000+......... .5%
If you want to be in the rare 6%, just carry over a hundred bucks in your money clip and wallet. That's not even enough to take care of a sudden overnight trip. "My name is Bond, James Bond. If you'll wait for me to find an ATM machine, I'll take you to dinner." ....Sound strange?
How much cash does Bond carry? Enough to get any sudden job or entertainment done without checking to see if the place he's going to takes credit cards.
Look what happened to James Bond in Quantum of Solace. He was in Austria and needed to fly to Bolivia to continue his mission. But M had his MI6 credit cards turned off and his passports revoked. We don't see the details, but next we see Bond on a private boat in the west coast of Italy. He obviously used his personal cash and credit cards to get there.
Let's consider Bond's attache case in From Russia with Love with the 50 gold sovereigns. At this year's, 2014, gold prices ($1,300 per oz. A soveign is 1/4th of an oz.) Bond is carrying $16,250.
Since World War 11, millitary pilots have carried gold coins and rings in their survival kits to buy themselves out of trouble if need be. Gold is even recognized by primative man, if he happens to bail out into a jungle. And look at Angeline Jolie's survival box in the movie Salt. A pistol, passports and lots of cash.
So be like James Bond and follow Rule # 7 of the James Bond Lifestyle: I carry enough cash and credit to operate efficiently.
