I read the Jerusalem Post article “Obama defends, Romney attacks on US-Israel ties - In '60 Minutes' interview, US president says he speaks to PM "all the time"; Romney attacks Obama for not meeting Netanyahu” of which I took the following excerpts:
"US President Barack Obama touted his ‘close’ relationship with Israel while Republican challenger Mitt Romney attacked his decision not to meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in separate interviews with CBS's 60 Minutes aired Sunday.
‘I have conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu all the time,’ said Obama. ‘I understand and share Prime Minister Netanyahu's insistence that Iran should not obtain a nuclear weapon because it would threaten us, it would threaten Israel and it would threaten the world and kick off a nuclear arms race.’
Obama also defended his record on the so-called ‘Arab Spring’ uprisings which took place throughout the Middle East and North Africa. ‘I think it was absolutely the right thing for us to do to align ourselves with democracy, universal rights, a notion that people have to be able to participate in their own governance,’ he said. He admitted that ‘there are going to be bumps in the road,’ but expressed hope that in the long run the region will be aided by the recent occurrences.”
.....
In reference to Israel, an Arab proverb says: “if a vessel makes a certain sound when banged, there probably is a fissure somewhere.” That means that if the press is writing so much about a subject, there is probably something there.
Prime Minister Netanyahu is right to be concerned, if Iran flexes its nuclear muscle and its president constantly says that it would eradicate Israel from the face of the earth. Do not forget that the Jewish people already lost 50% of its numbers, because they were not prepared. Why doesn’t the US credibly warn Iran once and for all, especially now, that Iran placed its army and rockets in the north of Israel, by passing through Iraq, without any opposition. Here the US could have made conditions when retreating from Iraq. It is no longer only a threat at a 2000-mile distance from Israel, but right at its doorstep. This is very dangerous.
We should remember how uncomfortable the US felt when the Soviets placed their rockets in Cuba. It made them take them away, not through war, but just through warnings. Obama was an infant at that time, but I hope he read history. Netanyahu lost his brother in a successful operation to free hostages held by terrorists. I wonder where the American Jews are, when they should make everyone aware of the imminent danger for our brothers and sisters living in Israel.
In reference to the “Arab Spring” with all respect to the presidency, Obama believes that this was the right thing to do. I don’t think so. Quite to the contrary, as it now becomes obvious that Obama aligned himself with the Muslim radical majority, which he actively instigated and supported, directly or indirectly. What kind of “democracy” or “universal rights” is Obama aligning himself with? The latest uprisings prove that his judgment may not have been right after all.
