This article gives women the direction they need for choosing the right sleepwear to battle their night sweats.
Women are becoming aware of wicking sleepwear as a way to relieve their "personal summers." However, once you have made the decision to take the plunge and try hot flash sleepwear, you will have some decisions to make...nightgowns or pajamas. In order to make the best choice and achieve the utmost relief, there are three things to consider. First, consider which part of your body is most affected by night sweats. Second, think about which type of sleepwear you prefer. Finally, consider your lifestyle.
OK, this may sound a bit gross and weird, but think about which part of your body becomes most "steamy" when you sleep. When you are awakened, which parts of your body are the most uncomfortable? Some women may suffer from leg sweats. If that is the case, then you would benefit from choosing a pair of night sweats pajamas, either capris or full length pajama bottoms. Women I have spoken with report that for some reason, the back of their knees is particularly problematic. Remember: wicking fabric must touch your skin to absorb the moisture. So, it is extremely important to have the sleepwear touch the parts of your body that bother you the most. How about your chest and neck? If you need to target these areas, try a garment that comes up a bit higher, maybe a scoop neck instead of a v-neck. There are even wicking pillowcases for those who are plagued by excessive neck sweating.
All of us have a personal preference when it comes to the type of sleepwear we choose. There is no real need to worry about looking like a granny if you choose a nightgown. These hot flash styles are up-to-date and totally comfortable. A variety of designs are available from long sleeves to sleeveless. They are meant to be both fashionable and functional. A lot of the wicking nightgowns have the look and feel of a nightshirt. Capri bottoms are hip, youthful and do the trick for leg sweats sufferers. Those of us who are more traditional most likely will prefer full length bottoms. Just remember to keep your problem areas in mind and cover them!
Do you like to relax on your back deck with a cup of coffee in the morning? Where do you live? These are just two questions that come up when we talk about lifestyles. A wicking pajama short set may not be the choice for a January morning in New England, but it could be perfect anytime in Florida! Maybe you are a bit of a slow starter in the morning, don't get dressed right away, and would like to have a pair of p.j.'s or nightgown that would be acceptable enough so that your teenage son doesn't run from the kitchen screaming while you are making breakfast. Aside from keeping you dry and comfortable, what do you need from your sleepwear? Take into consideration what your life is like.
Hot flash pajamas and wicking nightgowns offer relief for women suffering from night sweats, that is for sure, but there are choices to be made. Choose what is right for you. Choose what you need and you will stay dry, stay comfortable and sleep better!
